Hi everyone, I'm Kris. I hail from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. I have what I think is a 1950 GMC 3100. It is in pieces as of right now, as it has been for about 5 years. I got the itch to get it back together and drive it. I am looking for the VIN but I am not sure where to find it, and is there a site to decode the VIN?

Welcome to the 'Bolt' Kris.

The VIN is normally found on the left front door post..

I am going to assume you have a Canadian Built GMC.

Should you find your VIN [provided it is not missing]

Welcome Kris, I second BC52's sentiments, it's nice to have another Canuck on Stovebolt. If we get enough it might be easier to swap parts and things. It seems like our American brothers all have fellow bolters within driving distance or live near a retailer of wonderful and necessary truck parts. I know thats not exactly true but the nearest bolter to me is 5-6 hours away. Anyway, welcome again and beware this place is addicting!!! grin

I don't know about addicting...I haven't been here for at least 3 hours and I didn't even break into a sweat! Glad to have you here, Kris! And I echo the sentiments about the pics. We are always looking for great ideas to steal, er copy.

Welcome Kris, from a fairly new member. I echo the comment from BIG CHEVY 3600. This site is the greatest resource for old Chev/GMC trucks. I am constantly impressed with the amount of knowledge and the willingness to share it.

Good luck.

Hello Kris
Welcome aboard. Post pics/links to pics. We love to see pieces! wink Also, the guys here maybe able to nail down what year your truck is.
As far as the VIN goes. It "should" be a blue plate (unless painted over or rusted) on the driver side door jamb (front of cab) NOW, if its not there, try the eng. IF its the original eng. or IF the previous owners changed the VIN when they swapped out the eng. you should be ok. The #'s are down by the distributer (sp?) on a flat piece. Mine was REAL hard to see because it had about 15 coats of brushed on paint. It is STAMPED, not raised lettering.
Also, the guys here can help you with what kinda eng. it has in it as well. I have a 1953 that should have a 216 in it. Come to find out, my 53 had a 59-235 in it. Never know till you ask!
There is a VIN buster link off this site as well.
Best of luck!

Kris welcome to the 'Bolt. Looking forward to seeing your project get started again. There has been many truck projects stalled, including mine, for 5 years or more... something just has to lite the fire again. Plenty of Maple Leafs up that way to give advise also.

Supply pix as we like pix.

This is a great site but you can also glean some useful info at Old GMC Trucks . They have a lot of stuff over there and a friendly discussion forum. Good luck!
