Since it isn't my "daily driver" I am considering a Classic Car policy. Anyone have that kind of insurance? Pros and cons? Companies to look at, or avoid.
I looked at Hagerty, which many people seem to use, but the "limited use" is a little to limited for what I want.

Indoor storage and no everyday driving, thats the main ones. It just cant be your daily driver. Must be kept in a garage also. | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 | Old truck insurance is way easier to get if you just want to get liability insurance.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

However, they do not allow you to use the truck for hauling anything; it must be used strictly as a passenger vehicle. You might want to check them out as well.

Full coverag, no mileage restrictions, no driving restrictions. Have it insured with an agreed apraised value. I recently had an accident in the '55, had no problems at all with the adjuster, they covered all the repairs and even the labor to repair it. I'm with Westfeild, BTW.

With my multi-line discount, my premiums for "full coverage" pip, liability, $50. deductible comp and collision and road service and a reasonable agreed value runs me $206/year. There is no "garage" provision but there are some reasonable mileage restrictions. I have another vehicle designated as my "primary."
In recent years the national companies have made some changes in their view of "specialty" vehicles and you might be pleasantly surprised if you get a quote from them. Just something to think about!!! | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 23 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 23 | 55 Newbie,
I'm not sure if your truck is too old, but I had (have) my '65 insured with a national company too. (SF) My deductible is only $250.00. I pay about $35.00 a month to insure my truck for a little over $8000.00. My truck was just hit this Monday by a non-insured driver and it's already in the shop being worked on. The only limitation they put on me was no more than 3500 miles a year. Pretty do-able for the most part. | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 | I have both my 54 Chevy & 64 Henrybuilt/460+ trucks with SF....agreed at $12,500. Think the multiline helps out a bunch. Plus no tickets or accidents for 35 years also helps.
After the past hurricanes most all of the specialty companies were fair with their adjustments. That's what it's really all about!!! Sometimes the "good deals" are right under our noses!!! | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 2 Junior Member | Junior Member Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 2 |

You might find it useful. The key is to shop around and agree to a value in writing up front, and keep up on the agreed value, again in writing, as you fix the truck up or if it becomes more collectible. -W | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 33 Junior Member | Junior Member Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 33 | Much thanks for everybody's feedback. I have obtained several quotes and am sifting through all of the restrictions for each. I did run some of these companies by an agent (mostly commercial) who is a friend of mine. He couldn't say enough good things about Hagerty, and wasn't so kind to Sneed. | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 66 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 66 | 55 1st with Hagerty and have had no problems for three years, several tows all flatbeds, great customer service. I think I have it for 12 grand and I pay like 150 give or take a year. I guess it depends where you live as far as the coverage you want in Ohio it's in the garage a good six months of the year, and then I only get it out when I can and when it's nice outside and when I'm not working etc........ Good Luck! | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 22 Apprentice | Apprentice Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 22 | Just about every standard insurance carrier will insure the truck for everyday use. However, if you want the rate and coverage you can get from Hagerty, Grundy, Etc, you will have to meet their terms. Can't have it both ways. I carry Hagerty and am very happy with their policy and service, especially so for a claim I recently made. The best part was no deductible.
