Every time I drive into Vancouver, BC from the valley where I live I drive down a street with a nice 1946 PU on it. The other day I happen to notice the truck was in an accident. I hope he gets it back to normal, but I bet it is going to take some doing.

yeah.. I wondered if someone backed into him or he rear ended someone. Either way it's too bad. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it gets fixed.

What street is that one on? Venables? It does look like a truck backed into it or it ran into the back of a larger truck. If ya see my baby-blue 58 driving around, wave.

OldBlue58, yeah, it's the one on Venebles just east of Victoria. I'll keep an eye out for you in Vancouver. Do you go to the father's day show in Mission, "Father's Day in the Park"? It is one giant show, never seems to rain, and is in a beautiful Heritage Park.

I haven't seen that truck for a little while and now I know why. It was a nice looking truck but it certainly needs some work now. I've been to the father's day show once and there was a large collection of vehicles. I sometimes head out to Mission.

Having an accident in your 'Bolt really does suck. Hopefully the owner of this one has good insurance or whoever hit it does.

I don't know who owns it, I should put a note on his truck with this web address. Might help him find parts.

Hey glad you did that. I was heading into town today. He actually had that truck at a swap meet in Haney years ago, but I didn't see the him.

Super55,

Thanks for sharing.

Be sure to tell him/her that every bolter in North America (and the world) has seen his truck and now is anxious to meet the owner and find out the story behind the accident.

Hopefully he enjoys the restoration effort as much as the rest of us.

Thanks for all of the sympathy and concern. I am now registered with Stovebolt.

The rest of the story on my 46 PU is as follows:
When I returned home from 3 months work up north I found the PU in the condition pictured. A drunk driver had lost control after running the redlight at Commercial Drive (reported at well in excess of 100 km/hr) and proceeded to play "bumper pool" with the cars on both sides of the street. He demolished two cars on one side of the street, spun and demolished my tenant's Jeep before coming to rest against the 46. The Jeep Cherokee was hit almost broadside so took a lot of the final force which probably saved the 46 from a total writeoff. The accident was witnessed by two undercover police officers who arrested the driver at the scene. It is amazing that the driver and passenger were not injured to any extent - they were driving a Honda product. The insurance will pay for my repairs and will bill the driver for all of the vehicles. (Drunk drivers forfit thier insurance and are liable for all costs in B.C. and the bill stays active on their driver's licence until paid.) I assume the driver's parent's are also liable since it was their car.

"Mortimer" the 46 is still driveable and I am waiting for the body shop to have time to start repairs. I will post more pictures as the repairs take place

Regards
Eric

Well, welcome to the site, even if the circumstances aren't the happiest. And good luck fixing Mornimer up. That grill looks like it will be a challenge.

I am sure the insurance company will take good care of it. For a truck that old, replacement parts are replacement parts. Its not like its a matter of getting OEM parts or aftermarket junk like the newer cars. You can only get whats available. And if Canada is anything like the states, you are allowed to take it to whatever shop you want to have it painted and fixed, so I am sure it will be as good as new. Sorry to see it though. Also glad you or anybody wasnt in or around the truck at the time and that nobody was hurt

Hi Eric & Mortimer! Welcome & thanks for joining in. So sorry to hear what happened to your truck. I've admired your truck for years, even with the bumper-sticker "Don't laugh it's paid for". Ask the questions the repair shop & ICBC won't answer honestly of your fellow Stovebolters. Lots of resources and experience with early bolts. Good luck with the repairs and keep us updated.

Eric;
Erik's Restorations in Delta will do a job about which you'll never have cause to complain. Not soliciting business here, just passing on the word - from personal experience - about superior, old-school craftsmanship.

Eric,
I just caught up with the posts after doing a search. I posted the picture of your truck before I had figured out the email notification for responses. This is the first I knew you had joined the Stovebolt site, this site is great. I drove by your 46 today (Jan 21). I like driving by your truck on the way into Vancovuer from Maple Ridge. I will keep an eye on the progress. I never take 1st Ave. past Victoria to go into Vancouver. Glad you weren't hurt, and glad ICBC is going to fix it.

Welcome to the BOLT Eric. You always hate to see someone's bolt hit by another car however considering the thick sheet metal we have on our old trucks and the paper thin on theirs, you can always be certain the other guy will take the worst beating.
Speaking of heavy sheet metal, I have a 1987 Jeep Grand Wagoner that needs a face-lift and most body shops don't want to do the work. They claim they can make more money repairing these new cars because it can be done quicker.
