I bought a 52'3100 in several pieces.Now I am in the process of putting back to one piece. My question, is there a build book for these trucks or some other "instruction book" on how to get it back into one piece?

There is an assembly manual and a shop manual for the AD trucks. Many of the truck parts suppliers sell them and they can be found on Ebay. Look at item 300054717185 to see one on there now.

It's too bad we can't download some of the Stovebolter's brains. That would be better than any book.

When you put it together, you will probably see that almost every piece can only go in one place, just use your head and it will be pretty easy. It is also very rewarding to see it go together, my '54 GMC was in pieces when I got it and it was a fun puzzle.

I have the shop manual and the assembly manual for my truck. Sometimes they help a little but mostly I feel like I might as well be reading a foreign language. Looking at the pieces in my hand and just working them always make more sense to me. And then if I get stumped, I just call a real mechanic. Thank God I know a few of them.

I made the same mistake so many do - I launched full-steam into a major dissassembly process that took my '37 down to the bone.

Then my "better half" decided that I didn't need to be married any more. This put a SERIOUS dent in the project! It has taken me the better part of ten years to get back on track.

At a point in my life when I can't remember where I left my glasses last, I now find myself trying to remember how all these parts go together! Fortunately (for me) my intentions were to build a street rod, not a stock restoration, so some of the process has been, "If ya can't remember, re-invent!" When I'm done my hopes are to preserve the original lines that made these old trucks so cool, while providing a contemporary chassis and powertrain.

My advice is to take your time and don't hesitate to ask questions. I'm constantly amazed at the sense of community that revolves around this derangement, er, hobby!
