Hi guys.
It's time to put tires on my 53; God help my poketbook. My Chevrolet reto packet tells me original tires would have been US, Goodrich, or Firestones. While surfing the Coker site I found a set of 650-16s that I'd like:

for the front: Front Firestone Blackwalls

and for the rear: Rear Firestones

My problem is trying to determine exactly which tubes and liners to buy with them. Can someone tell me the difference between an offset tube or otherwise? I'd hate to order these only to find that I had the wrong tubes.

I think they must be refuring to where the stems go through the wheel at :confused: If no one here knows I can ask my father for ya he spent 40 some years in the tire biz. :p

If you're looking to save money on tires, go for used. I put a nice set on my '52 3100. I think they were 215/75 R16s. $25 each with plenty of tread left, and 3 were Michelins! They look just right on that truck.

I personally prefer radials on my 62 1/2 ton chevy truck as they are cheaper and last a long time-better gas mileage too. Does anyone know how long it is safe to drive tires that look alright tread wise but may be 6 or 7 years old???

For retailers of new tires, the DOT preferrs that they be less than 4 years old to be sold as "new". 10 years is the max that they are allowed to kept in stock.
Having said that, as long as the tread and sidewall condition are ok, they should be fine. I have a set of Michelins on my Blazer that are 15 years old, they look just fine as far as wheather checking and trad condition.

I just removed the original front tires from my red 48 1 1/2 ton just this year. 58 years old and still holding air. The tread is shot so I'm going to use them for spares,

my 59 still has its original old tyres on,dominion royal masters, with strangest tread pattern you will see, no cracking or wear anywhere, 47 yrs old?
