Hi Everyone,
I know that Chevy Duty sponsors this site but facts are facts.
I ordered item Part # 62-122 cab trim kit Advertised as stainless steel trim kit but is alum.
I ordered the clips for the trim and they do not work. Instructions tell you to drill holes out to 19/64" don't do it. I called Chevy duty and was told that these are the only clips available even though they know they will not work and sell them anyway. Its like buying 15" wheels from them and they send 14" tires . It does not work.
I also ordered rivets for vent glass seal and they were 3 times to long. The guy at Chevy Duty (Chris or Tim) said can't you cut them off? Small detail I know but its the principal here.
You can tell they know very little about doing this type of work so to me they should not sell these parts without posting a disclaimer. I know that all parts do not fit perfectly and require some work but after you drill a hole or 40 of them in the newly painted cab of your truck what do you do then?
Also the blame for some of the problems I was told was going through a name change and web changes.
Shame on Chevy Duty.

As a moderator on another forum, I have often been involved in trying to resolve such issues. In most cases, there is usually more to the story than is seen on the surface when one is dealing with a reputable company. Sometimes it’s a bit of a misunderstanding on the part of the customer, sometimes a mistake is made by he company – most of the time it is a little of both. Almost always it can be resolved without too much pain if you just talk reasonably with the right person in the company.

Call again, be polite, and if you can’t get it resolved with one person, ask for the next in line.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary…

chevy duty, or... as it is now known as... classic parts of america. I do not believe it sponsors the 'bolt or has ever sponsored it. I could be wrong tho'... they might have supplied some doodads for contests maybe... but American Classic(totally different website and company) usually does all of that stuff - yay for us.

American Classic truck parts @

http://www.americanclassic.com

provides the bandwidth/web connection for the Stovebolt SuperComputer(thanks AC!) which is where all this stuff we are reading and what not is located.

Keep calling CPA and talk to someone else... if nothing else, tell them to put a marker/disclaimer on the part on their site and in future catalogs... many other vendors do this... 'not as original, but will work' or 'not as original, trim to fit' etc..

Taz,

Woogeroo is absolutely 100% correct. Chevy Duty does not sponsor this site. The only two old truck business that have contributed to help pay for stuff has been American Classic Truck Parts and Weeks End Machine (Barry Weeks). American Classic provides the server and pays the host fees. So, they have been really super about all this. AND ... they have donated prizes for everything we do. All I just need to do is ask. They are a great bunch! grin

Chevy Duty did donate a prize for last year\'s IRWIPI contest. I got a little bold -- especially since they (and others) are mentioned a lot around here -- I thought maybe they could participate in the fun. And they did.

As to your issue, with CD -- these guys are right. Try to find something that works. Better to have a compromise than nothing in your hand and a bad feeling about it all in your head.

Peg

Sorry to hear about your troubles.
On the flip side, I've ordered a bunch from Chevy Duty over the years. A ****eload of that was just in the last couple months. All the orders have been correct, shipped fast and parts fit.

My experience with them has been mixed. I definately won't order from them if I'm in a rush.

My experience with them has been mixed too.

I've concluded they are too focused on the profitability of a single transaction and not thinking about the value of a long-term relationship with a customer. They are quick blame me for the problem and slow to help resolve it. That might not be anyone else's experience, but it has been mine.

I've taken most my business elsewhere.

From a fast delivery standpoint I've found LMC truck generally gets stuff to me by the end of the week if I order at the beginning of the week. With ChevyDuty I'd work on my project on teh weekend, order more stuff Sunday night and it rarely arrived in time for the following weekend's use.

LMC if I order on Monday its here by Friday. That might be a clue where I've taken my business.

taz101, I must say that I am in agreement with "mugsy" on his response. I have had nothing but good service and quality parts from CD over the years. A recommendation, call CD at 1-800-741-1678 and then go to X-245 and speak with ANGIE. A VERY knowlegeable individual who has provided me with nothing but EXCELLENT customer service. Give her the chance to straighten out your problem. NOTE: CD meaning Classic Parts Of America.

I've had problems with them, too. I haven't ordered anything from them for almost two years.

And I just had a great experience with CD (Classic Parts of America). I ordered a fuel pump/vacuum booster from them last September. Installed it, and it worked fine. It started to "sweat" oil from the vacuum vent hole last fall, but I put the truck in storage until this April. The oil leak got worse.

After 7 months, I figured I didn't have a leg to stand on, even though the truck had less than 150 miles on the fuel pump. They gave me a RMA #, and sent me a new pump AND paid the shipping both ways.

Their delivery is just a mite slow, but very reliable for me. BTW, it wasn't Chinese, it was of Canadian manufacture.

I've never had a problem with CD and I've bought a TON of parts. The shipping seems fast too, probably takes 3-4 days to get it here. The only issue I've had is that the shipping company damaged two packages. I called CD and they shipped out new items the same day to replace the damaged ones.

I've sometimes wondered why one company will have a great reputation with some people and poor or mixed with others.

The answer doesn't seem real simple, but it does suggest how important it is that every employee that deals with customers be on their toes every day. One bad day and you get a handful of people who and who are likely to share something negative in a forum like this, and while others say nice things, some potential customers are going to try elsewhere first.

Excellant customer service has to be an every day thing.

I'm currently dealing with a business that says most people think their service is excellent. Meanwhile they dropped a tree on one of my trucks and don't want to make it right. But they seem to think the fact most people like them means I should too.

They don't understand that my own negative experience with them trumps any stories I've heard from anyone else.

Not to complain, but explain, we've had trouble with just about all the vendors lately. I'm not going to slam them by naming them. One place takes for ever to fill an order. One place sends out parts that dont fit much of anything. One place took 2 month just to send us a catalog. I think that most of these vendors are having growing pains, can't keep help, or just struggle with the day to day things. On the other hand, i've had stuff come in 2 days and was right the first time. It seems to be kind of hit and miss with them all.

My experience with all them has been pretty mixed. Some will shine at times and then its the other one's turn to shine. LMC has been the most shiney for me smile

I ordered a new front stainless bumper among other parts. The first 2 boxes arrived. Then I see from my back yard the UPS truck. I walk up to the porch and there is a tall box that is empty. I notice it is busted open on the end. Within 5 minutes I call UPS and report the empty box. Not only that but the box says Chrome bumper all over it. I spent a week and a half doing the run around with UPS. They called twice and both times left a meesage asking if I was going to keep the damaged merchandise or what. I called back to the damage department 4-5 times each time I got an answering machine. We are busy right now. Anyhow, I hate places that screen all their calls. I never get them an so I call the main number again. They are suposed to get back to me. I finally give up and call Chevy Duty (Classic Parts) I tell them what was delivered and my concern that once I wrangle with UPS that they part they find might be chrome and not stainless. They take my information down and within 3 days they ship me another new stainless bumper. I suppose they have to wrangle with UPS, but I was very pleasanly surprised at that kind of customer service.

taz101 -The Cab trim is Stainless. Did you try to stick a magnet on it? A magnet usually won't stick to stainless. We have the same questions about our stainless bed strips. People try and put a magnet to it and when it doesn't stick they wonder what is going on. The trim we currently sell comes with clips that work well with the trim. I remember a call we had a couple of weeks ago asking about drilling out the holes..we used to carry a clip that required drilling out the holes because the clips were a bit to big....they were the only thing that were available at the time. The trim kits we sell come "with" the correct clips and we also sell those clips separately. I would be happy to send you a set of the correct clips at no charge if you'd like to try them

The rivets are correct for the vent glass seal. They may look too long when you push them thru, but they are supposed to be that long as they 'mushroom" down which allows it to hold in place.

Peggy M - Please don't hesitate to ask if you need contest items, sponsorship, etc...we would love to help! I know we ran a special for the stovebolt group for a discount off of orders and would like to do that again when we launch our new website in a few weeks. Let me know how I can help!

64fleetside - Most of the aftermarket items are being produced in Taiwan. There would be a whole lot less parts on the market without these companies. Sometimes it takes a couple of production runs to iron out some of the problems of a new item. Over the years I have seen great strides in quality control coming from these overseas manufactures. 10 years ago there was hardly anything available for these old trucks.

bigmacdaddy -We have made great strides in our delivery times. We have been shipping same day for all orders placed before 2pm. As long as you get your order in before 2pm CST and the item/s are in stock your order will go out that same day. And since we ship UPS and are located in the Midwest, we can deliver most everywhere in the US in 1-3 days.

OldSub -Our business has grown steadily over the past 22 years because we value long-term relationships. We know the customer isn't just making a one-time purchase and then done. It takes years to restore a truck, and sometimes it seems as if you are never quite finished, there is always something to replace, tweak, or change. I think we have some of the most competitive pricing in the industry. Again, as long as you get your order in before 2pm CST and the item/s are in stock your order will go out that same day. And since we ship UPS and are located in the Midwest, we can deliver most everywhere in the US in 1-3 days.

Apache Kid -We have made a lot of improvements in our customer service, shipping times, parts availability, etc...over the past two years. I would be happy to discuss any issues or concerns you may have had in the past. Feel free to email me directly at [email protected]

To All :

Our name change has gone smoothly. We are starting to send out our new Classic Parts T-shirts with some of the larger orders. If your order is over $300 just ask the customer service rep to throw a free one in with your order. We have 3 of our 5 catalogs reprinted with the new logo. We are still working on a few things..new sign, business cards, etc...

We have a new website about to be launched in a couple of weeks. It has some great features. A quick order form if you already know your part numbers, a wish list, in-stock/out-of-stock indicator, more product photos, the ability to check the status/tracking information of any type(web, phone, mail) of order you place with us, etc..etc...

We are adding in new items for all the truck years as well as starting on the 88-98 catalog.

It's been a fun and busy year already!

As always, I am usually available any time to respond to comments or questions you may have. I like to hear the positive things that we do, as well as the negitive. Hearing the negative allows me to work on those areas that need attention. We do appreciate the feedback. I try and pass that on to our employees as they appreciate hearing it, both good and bad. It confirms what we are doing well, and lets us know where we need imrovement.

Again, any time you have questions, comments, or general feedback, or, if you just feel like an issue isn't getting handled to your satisfaction, please feel free to contact me directly.
