Has anyone tried those rain repellent sprays on their windshield and how did it work. I have used it on aircraft plexiglass and it works but never tried it on glass.

My friend said to use a potatoe and smear it on the windshield and it repels the water. I've never heard of it but I had to get home lastnight without my windshield wipers in spring showers. It sorta worked.

Alberto has been using the replellent spray on the visor of his helmet & says it works pretty well but that's plexiglass too (I think)(isn't it?).

I'll ask him to leave me the replellent & trade him for a potato for a week & I'll try it on my windshield

Just recently my son applied that on my trucks windshield. Then a couple of days later it "drizzled" and covered the windshield but as I drove, the water just beaded up and blew off like in a car wash when the car is under the high pressure blower.
It's great because now, I don't even need to use the "delayed" wiper until it's raining real hard .

I used to own a winfshield business for several years... I found that "Aquapel" works better than anything on the market. The label says it's guaranteed to last 6 months. I applied it to my commuter car 7 months ago and it still works! It's not as cheap as rain-x, but lasts like crazy! You can get it on ebay or your local glass guy should have it.

I use Rain-X all the time. Below 45 MPH, it is of marginal help but at highway speeds it's a lifesaver. Pouring rain on the interstate, truck splash everywhere, and I don't need wipers. Only drawback is it really works best if applied once a month. I always make sure to do it before a road trip.

Back in high school, 1 had a 69 mercury that the wipers did not work. I waxed the windsheild with automotive wax. It worked real well until i fixed the wipers. Then it caused the water to bead up immeately (bad spelling) behind the wipers. Took forever for it to wear off.

Anyone know where to buy Aquapel? any chain auto stores sell it?
Rain X works well but always on the lookout for somthing better.

I've used RainX and it worked OK on the highway where the water would blow off. In town I had to use the wipers and the streaking was really bad. I could hardly see. Could have been poor wiper blades but the same blades didn't streak until I put the RainX on.

i used it (rain-x)during the slushy spring and works great,,,also keeps bugs off to some degree.
but must be used once a month,,,

I agree with mrdanb aquapel is the best on the market. Lasts for up to 8 months. Should be avaible at your local glass co.

Here's a little trick I heard about. My father-in-law used to race Trans-Am series cars. In one race they had a downpour and he noticed some of the other, more experienced racers would rub tobacco all over their windshield. Has anyone else ever heard of this? Might work well in a pinch. I don't know how may of you carry a spare potato in your truck, but I would imagine at least a few of you have a pack of cigarettes or two within reach. Hey, maybe I just solved Phillip-Morris's dilemma!!

I use Rain-X and it works great. That, along with my newly rebuilt vacuum wiper motor take care of any amount of moisture. With this combination, my wiper goes like its being driven a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine ;-)

I've used the rainx did good above 45mph bugs seem to stick worse and didn't seem to clear as well when using wipers at speeds below 45. had to reapply couple times a month but was running serveral thousand miles aweek at the time
