I'm thinking of getting a spray in bed liner. I have a Rhino liner in one of my trucks but I was wondering if there is a better product out there? Some people say Line-X is better but I have heard it does not keep it's color well and turns chalky. Any comments?

I had Line-X do my 05 chevy. Best $450 I ever spent. Its tougher than the steel in the bed. On a trip back up form KS, a bag caught fire in the back of the truck(dont even ask), it didnt hurt the coating at all. The flame was about a foot high and a pile of the nylon bag melted to the floor. I just scraped it off with a putty knife after I got home. Came off clean, washed it out and you can't even tell it happened.

My Grandpa has put Line-X in the beds of all of his recent trucks. He doesn't like Rhino because it's not not Eco-Friendly.

He beats the crap out of those trucks, and the lining still looks great.

Once I get some 3/4 ton Running Boards, I'm going to have them done; they won't rust out, and they'll be grippy when it's wet out.

Line-X is a great product, people who I know that line their beds all use it. I have not heard if it is better than Rhino-Lining, but I do not know anyone who uses that product maybe that is more than a coincidence.

I knew a guy who used stuff he bought in 1 gallon cans at Home Depot.. you had to roll it on, and the stuff was thick as tar.

When it hardened, you could transport molten lava in the back and not hurt the coating.. when he sold the truck 2 years later, it looked as good as the day it went on.

Another friend used the same stuff to coat the floor and walls of his cargo van with equally impressive results.

I plan on using the same stuff for the cab floor of both my '46 trucks.

The guy that is doing my body and paint asked if I wanted the Line-X in the fender wells instead of paint. Sounded good to me.

Are you going to use the stuff at home depot? How does the price of it compare to Line-x or Rhino. Would that work well in rattletrap's fender wells. It would have to be more durable and protective than paint.

im not sure of the Home Depot product, but i know that either Classic Trucks or Custom Classic Trucks magizines did an article on a roll-on bedliner that sold for just under $100 a while back. i was thinking abt useing in on my truck's bed.

This stuff my friends used came in a 1 gallon sized can.. looked just like a 1 gallon paint thinner can, and the price was in the $40 to $50 range per gallon.

The 1/2 ton shortbed truck used a full gallon of the stuff.. my other friends full size cargo van used 2 1/2 gallons of it.. and both guys blobed the stuff on thick.

Not sure what it costs to have professionals do it.. but the do it yourself method seems like it would be cheaper.. unless you count the clothes/shoes/gloves you ruin while applying it!

The one guy didnt use gloves, and he had that crap on his hands for literally months afterward. It's some nasty stuff till it dries.. then once it dries, it isn't easy to get off!

I have Line-X in the bed of my '02 Silverado and Rhino-Lining on the running boards, bed and bed strips of my '52 half-ton. The Rhino-Lining seems softer, has more texture, and grips better than the Line-X. The Line-X seems tougher and things slide easier across it.

I have line-x in my toyota pu. Im sure its just as good as rhino, but rhino looks like cr*p in the few peoples trucks ive seen, cause it looks like it was painted on and left drip marks all over. Not sure if this is normal but it looked the same in all the vehicles ive seen. Same price comparison to.

No complaints yet with my line-x -looks great and works great-and it was done 5 years ago(and ive beat the h*ll outta it!)

I wonder if you could use that stuff on the walls and floors of my Kids rooms?

think of it you could put a drain in the floor and just hose the rooms down every week. ... hey while Im at it, I could paint the beds and dressers too

I have a friend that has used the roll on stuff for his sand rail floors and his pickup bed. I believe it was a 2 part mix and I think the product is called Herculiner, (tm). It has a slight rubbery feel when cured. That's what I plan on putting in my bed when I get there.

Thanks for all your responses. I not adventerous emough to try the roll on - If I screw it up it will cause major $$ damage. I'll think I'll go with the Line-X based on the comments above, comments for other sites and the fact the the closest local Rhino liner dealer (60 miles away) has only been installing them since December.

I have Rhino on the bed of my 88 GMC been there for 3 yrs. haul a lot of paint, thinner, ect. Plus normal country living stuff. Notice the other day it is starting to peel in a couple areas.

Cost about $400.00 here, for the 59 under the cab only I am using Gator, mix it and brush it on.

I have had line x on my truck for 5 years and it works great. Yes it did fade through the years but it holds up like iron. I plan to put in my next truck also.

Line-X is the best. If you're woried about fading they now have a UV stabilizer they can add that will keep it from fading. I think that's optional since if you're going to put a shell over it you don't need it.

I went with ArmaCoat. They're near me, and the only other choice was Rhino. Heard Rhino didn't do as good work, so checked out ArmaCoat. I've been very happy with it. Nice and thick coating, and fabulous detail work: the edges are very clean and straight as a razor. I did the bed sides in my '53, including the tailgate. Wood on the bed floor w/ stainless steel strips. I like it.

Was just reading through this post. I did the same thing on my '56 as Kevin in WA did but with Rhino. Happy with result. Then went on the cheap with Herculiner on the inside boards (wife was destroying the paint stomping on them--has bad wheels--previously had broken ankle, leg, and now two knee replacements). Also happy with the Herculiner. Doesn't look exactly the same as Rhino but nobody has ever noticed and it was mega-cheaper.

Hey, CLIFF59 - I had to laugh when I read your idea about your kids room. I'm not sure, but I think they use that stuff over at the Fort Worth Zoo in the monkey cages!!

All seriousness aside, I had the back of my bumpers sprayed with Line-X. My truck is an older model (1937) and the backs of the bumpers are very visable so I thought this might be a good, durable, do-it-and-forget-it solution to keeping the backs of the bumpers looking good. So far - hey, they look good!
