Alright the truck i'm getting noone can seem to find the key so how hard is it to get the ignition switch out so i can get one with a key to start the bad boy....btw its a 66...Terry

Pretty easy. You just unhook the wires on the back of the ignition lock, and take it out. Then you slide the new one in and reattatch the wires. Nothing is ever as easy as it sounds, but this is a pretty straight forward job. Good luck.

I'm having the same issue with my '67 GM truck. My ignition is on the dash and I can't seem to remove it. I've tried holding the front part while turning the back by hand, but it only goes so far...I'm stuck.

Rick, the actual switch part under the dash has a bit of a tooth that fits in a little notch to keep it from turning while you unscrew the face bezel all the way off - in other words, hold the back, turn the front!

Usually the lock cylinder has to be removed first to unscrew the bezel to remove the switch. The key is needed to remove the lock cylinder. Destructive techniques abound if you are planning on replacing it all. A Dremel with a cutoff wheel or burr to split the bezel keeps the dash undamaged.
Saving it all? Try a locksmith.

Did you try turning it. Sometimes these old switches are wore out & will turn with any key or a screwdriver.

I bought a 63 without a key and the doors were locked too. I put the key from my 64 in and worked and wiggled and it unlocked the door. The ignition was sloppy enough that it worked just like it belonged. I can start my 64 with a screwdriver or any other key that will fit into the slot. Anti-theft precautions wasn't high priority back then I guess,

Now that you have the key there is one thing that I did not see mentioned. Put the key in the slot. Put the end of a paper clip in that pin hole, that is off to the side. Turn the key to the left and the tumbler should pull out easily.
