Hello all,

Just a little post to let you all know that my truck is in the gallery now. Peggy was kind enough to get me posted with this weeks submissions. I am excited to hear what people think of the old girl, espescially the hood issue that I mention in the writeup. Anyway, take a look and let me know what you think, thanks. My Truck

And I want to add that Kyle did a great job with his write up! Lots of good information and Stovebolt excitment. It was fun to put it together.

I really liked his photo of the speedo.

Good job.

Congrats, Kyle!

I thought that you were older than me by a few years, but it looks like it might be the other way around! (I'll be 26 in July)

That truck of yours looks like it's in great shape! A coat of paint, a little chrome work, and she'll look brand new!

I didn't know that that hood came on a 61 either. It's kind of strange, that. They probably ran out of parts and dipped into the stock for the 62's.

VERY nice Kyle! I know your excitement to see your truck in the Gallery! grin I was the same when Peggy posted my "Dusty" there. Looks like you have a good, sound truck and should end up with a vehicle that will give you years and years of enjoyment. Keep us posted as you go forward with your project.

Congrats Kyle! I know how excited you are to have the truck published in the Gallery!

Peg does a superb job, don't you think?

Nice looking ride, by the way. Seems like I've seen her before. wink

I don't know all that much about these old trucks yet. But in my opinion your best bet is to keep it as original as possible. I think that makes them "much" more valuable. Plus, you would probably win some prizes at local shows, if you decided to enter it.

Excellent write-up buddy! I know what I need you for at the new site now! grin

Once again, congrats on getting in!

Hey, have you "named" the truck yet?

Fort,

I know that the 60-61 hood was really unpopular, and if you damaged it and required replacement the dealers would substitute a 62-66 hood.

I think it's possible, as Brendan suggested, that the truck may have been late production. It's also possible that it was changed at the dealership for some reason, i.e. damaged before purchase, or trying to make it look like a '62.

In any case, nice truck! I've got a '60 that I bought in MUCH worse shape than that! It's currently without a bed as I finish up the rear frame/suspension restoration.

kYLE, I have a 62 and went the hot rod route. BUT
do like your truck and you are following the path of most of us before you. Hang onto it and you will enjoy it more every year. Make the changes you feel necessary to make it what you need.

I like the truck Kyle!
Good write up too.
I caught myself chuckling and thinking "whoa, same as me"!
I was driving a '64 rusty/bad paint straight six truck for half of this last year. I had the same things, a stack of phone numbers in the glove box, I had people talking to me everywhere and so on. Too bad I was convinced to sell it. I really like your truck as it is. It has character, and thats what I love about these old trucks. Best of luck with your little '61 and keep us posted!

Thanks guys! I am so happy to hear what you all think about it.

Davey - I have not yet named her, and would not be opposed to doing so. Suggestions?

As for the hood does anyone else know what it could be? It is a wierd one. Thanks for all the support, you all make this page what it is!

Nice truck Kyle, your write up is very pleasent to read.

That hood looks like a 62 hood and possibly GMC, we all know that GM did some crazy things back then. Anyways, congratulations on getting her in the gallery.

Kyle,

VERY nice writeup. It's good to see some younger folks interested in something besides video games. I wish I could get either of my boys interested in an old vehicle (and all that goes with that). I think the only chrome I'd add to my 66 would be a lic. topper. As to names, mine is 'Ole Booger' because of it's green color. Yours looks like a lighter green (not booger green). I considered keeping mine green when I repaint but now I'm pondering other colors since it may not be original. Again, nice writeup, and keep us updated.

My truck actually has very little chrome, and I plan on keeping it that way. There are some bits inside the cab, but on the outside there isn't any, aside from the mirror and door handles. I am going to repaint the bumper and headlight surround white, I also plan on getting a normal (non-step) bumper and painting it white as well. I like the white paint with the green, I think that it would look really good if the paint was new. Thanks for the comments and replies.

With the white/clear lenses that are rectangular I think it is a 62 Chevy hood. By 63 the lenses were amber. GMC lenses were wider at the top (or is it bottom). Anyway - Cool old truck and welcome to the Stovebolt Page.
