Now the guy who owns it thinks its a 39.. but i'm guessing its gotta be older than that because it has a one piece windshield.

The Mfg tag is pretty hard to make out.. looked like 31TD08.. but that dosent work in the VIN cruncher.. my guess is somebody who knows grills would know.

37's and 38's are both one year only models, in both the cars and the trucks. They are amongst the easiest models to identify, once you see them or if you know what the grill in the cars of those same years look like.

There can be no mistaking the trucks, as they're just larger versions of the same year car grills.

The 37 is similiar in shape to the 38, but the bars run vertically instead of horizontally, and have a little bit of a sharper point in the front.

Believe it or not, this one starts, runs, and drives.. tires are a little on the shot side, tho.

Dude wants $500 bones for it.. no title. I'd guess it'll keep on sitting there!

The crane he's asking $3500 for.. the motor in the crane part somebody swapped out with a caterpillar one.. it's pretty cool.. but not anything I need.

Fumblin, couldn't you use that crane to throw hay to the moo's? You could even put a big claw on it and stack the hay with it.

Is the bar across the top of the windsheild to join wipers? My 38 just has one on the drivers side

I didnt really look at it all that close.. i just assumed there was only one wiper motor, and that bar was used to make the other blade move.

The crane has a big ole claw bucket on it.. but I don't have nearly that many moos to feed to use a deal like that.

The TD is a 1938 1.5-ton dually with a 157" wheelbase.

Fumblin: That serial number should work in the cruncher. Try using 21 in place of 31 for the factory code.

It had dullies, so my guess was going to be that it was bigger than a 'pickup'.. but you know, the older big bolt trucks sure don't LOOK all that big.

I'll bet if a fellow were to drop a '41 thru 46 era bed on the back, and swap out the rear axl, most folks wouldn't be able to tell it wasnt a pickup.

If the cat had have had a title, I might have seriously thought about the $500.. but his story is the folks he bought it from were supposed to get him a title and never did.. and now they're out of the country.

On a quasi-related note.. I found the guy who bought the '42 1/2 ton I 'spotted' a week or so ago.. the wife was in a rare mood, and wanted to go 'stovebolt spotting' with me yesterday afternoon.

As we were driving past a small garage that always has old trucks sitting out front (i always assumed he was a collector like me, so never bothered to stop) I saw that truck in his 'collection'.

He was a pretty nice guy, and we swapped whats left of my '39 cab for four nice rims and tires. He sold me a fan for $5 that I needed, and the torque tube u-joint out of a '39 or '40 1/2 ton that I was hoping would have fit my '46... but it didnt.

The 1 1/2ton 38 has a much heavier drivetrain then a pick up, with 20" wheels.They also have bigger fenders so those big tires will fit.I'm pretty sure the cab,doors,hood and grille are the same as a pick up .

you could get a bonded title with a bill of sale. its a bit of a pain in the butt, but I have done it a few time with old motorcycles.
