I can't find anyone near me who will repair a box spring assembly. Can anyone help me find one?

I have a set of Unison seats and have a break on the uppermost "collar wire". This is the wire that runs around the perimeter and holds the nut-plate which the seat back bolts are threaded into.

I'm in West Central Illinois near Springfield.

Well, I have not gotten to the point of seat repair yet but I would guess you could go to any upholstery shop and get these repairs done. I don't think your question has anything to do with gender it may be that some are not sure of a place for this to be done.

People on this forum help each other out all of the time regardless of gender.

I expect most that have had seat work done have simply taken it to their local upholstery shop, which is what I would do if I had seat spring work to be done.

Since you don't have a shop locally that will tackle the job, perhaps a call to an auto body shop or an upholsterer in a larger city is in order.

I don't need springs or upholstery, I need spring frame restoration. Upholsterers are everywhere. Seat spring restoration is a totally different task that upholsterers apparently do not perform.

Around here the upholstery shops just pad them u so they look good-they may sit crooked or you may fall in a "hole". I have robbed springs from old sofas to repair/strengthen truck seat springs w/good success. Brian

I talked to the local upholstery guy that I plan to have fix my unisons and he said that your upholstery guy is too young. He said he has saved springs from old seats or will make new springs from a roll of spring steel he has. He advised to find an old timer that didn't mind that kind of repair work. He told me that my seats were not cherries but that he could make them live again. I had to go ask after seeing your post.

JB Weld, man.. then toss a seat cover or horse blanket over the seat, and keep on truckin'.

With Unison seats, the driver back cushion assembly is quite heavy and it is bolted directly to the top of the butt cushion. The whole thing moves up and down and over time the butt cushion perimeter wire breaks by where the back cushion bolts to the butt cushion. I need to get a good picture of my issue and get it posted so you'll know "exactly" what my problem is.

Mike, I think Greg hit the nail on the head--your upholtery contacts are too young or inexperienced. My shop is run by an older Hispanic man and his middle aged son and they can do ANYTHING to or with a seat. Several times I've just pointed to the space it went in and said "build me one". Flat springs, wire springs, coil springs, frames, widening, narrowing, makes no differance and the finished job is beautiful. The cost is no more than what some shops charge for repadding and a seatcover. There's got to be a shop like this near you--keep looking.

I actually repaired my own springs, but it was the coils, not the perimeter. I just used some rod of similar size, coiled it and cut the sections I needed. Then I butt-welded the pieces in. Not too difficult if you have access to a welder.

I have to wonder what it'd cost to ship those puppies to Evan's shop?? That'd get 'em done right and you wouldn't have to worry whether the guy doing the work REALLY knows what he's doing.

Speed - I immediately had the same thought and finding someone anywhere in the USA was the goal of my post. If near me it would just be a bonus. It wouldn't cost much at all to ship a single box-spring cushion. I sent coilover a private request for their contact information.

I had some antique house furniture restored a few years back and the quality was right up there with a Rembrandt work. I mean truly incredible including all newly fabricated springs. And it was done by a guy who was barely 30 years old if that. Within a year afterwards he committed suicide after catching his wife doing the wild thang with another man! Suicide is some heavy stuff and I'm still trying to figure out why he didn't kill her instead of himself, or at least kill her before himself.

Dennis, I use Leo's Upholstery in McKinney. Usually about a 6-8 week waiting period for a total interior job but on small jobs they will usually work them in within a week. Once in a total interior usually takes a week or less. They just have a one vehicle shop with a canopy along one side so there is a limited capacity for them. Just Leo and his son,Roy, so there's no passing the buck. If you call ask for Roy since Leo is a little hard to understand until you have conversed with him for awhile, unless of course you speak Spanish.

I guess im not much help as well. I went to have my 59 Apache bench seat and upholstery done at a professional upolstery shop. the main reason is that this companys speciality is auto seat repair and upholstery. I want my Truck (and cars) to look there best.
