someone told me that the horn on my truck is called a cow horn. well i got it to work, and it sure does sound like a cow. i love it. its too bad they didnt have 2 on there.

I wish mine sounded like a cow...my dogs probably wouldn't like it... these dogs I have now get upset with cows & horses, seem to be afraid of them :rolleyes: ...not like our old dogs.

Have one on my '56. I like to think it is of the male gender to match the bull balls on the back and the "got balls?" sign in my back window.

hahaha. cool. well if i find another i may put it on also. a bit quiet for my taste. im going to record the sound and see if its just my ears, or the horn...

er... if it is a "cow" horn, then it'd be a "girl cow" sound.

"Boy cows" are called bulls.

Cows who used to be male and are now eunichs are called steers.

But we can call it a "Bull Horn" if you like.

well i do have an image to uphold. and not sure if i should call it a bull horn or a cow horn , now. but i do call my cars "she" or "her" . not sure why. :confused:

OK, one more bad pun like that and I may have to mooooove this thread to the trash.

He'd have to add another horn in order to call it a Cattle horn, since the word Cattle suggests two or more "moos" as I call them.

The stock horn in my '46 2 ton sounds like a VW Bug horn.. maybe I outta get one of those "cow horns".. altho the wife is convinced I should get one of those "BahhhOOOOOOOga" horns.

I put an ahhooooga horn on my ol' '48 Willys and it works real well for herding cows. Does that make it a cow horn? LOL

Demo man,...That's probly a Jubilee no.90 cow caller. Usually red, mounted with the bell on top and the trumpet turned down and out 90 degrees. Had a lever mounted to the bell to attach to a push/pull cable and a lever mounted in the cab. With just a horn button it's not very impressive, but if you actuate the lever it can get pretty loud. Supposed to sound like a bull. You can get both a 6volt and 12volt version.

I grew up on a farm in western Kansas, we had cattle as did most everyone else in the area.

Cattle can be conditioned to come to your location by certain yells, whistles, vehicles horns, or whatever. They will ignore the typical vehicle horn unless conditioned to it, i.e. such as blowing it every time you feed them.

However, a bull horn when sounded will bring any herd toward you without being conditioned to the particular horn. I don't know the reason they respond to the particular sound of a bull horn, but cattle will come on the run toward where it is being sounded from.

Well, I thought I had heard it all...but I was wrong!!

This reminds me when I was younger and just started working on a turkey farm. The owner also raised cows. Well, one morning I was driving the truck when I came to about 3 cows in the middle of the road. I tried moving slowly towards them, but they weren'tt moving. I honked the horn 2 or 3 times and the guy next to me burst out laughing. I'll bet 30 or 40 cows came running in from all directions and boxed the truck in. Man, those cow could fly! The guy explained to me (between fits of laughter) about the horn/feeding conditioning.

Folks who haven't spent any time around cattle don't think cows can run fast.. but they can run faster than you can.. even big fat pregnant ones.

haha, i thought i was the only one with one of these! its mounted in the '68, and my grampa used to call the cows home with it. and just like Tweak said, its said, with a bell, and a 90 degree trumpet.

and, when you pull on that lever. it makes one helluva sound. it'll go in the 69/67. heck yes.

well tweak. you got it right. its just like you discribed it. the thing i thought was interesting,is it looks like it was a factory item, that or a great add on. its mounted to the manifold with stock type brackets.
