Hello all,
Does anyone know the approximate weight of a 59-3600 flatbed, dually with a 1ton rear-end? The bed is pretty basic with no boxes.
I am asking because the lady at the DMV tells me that any truck with a flatbed is considered a commercial vehicle. But on the CA DMV web site it says any vehicle operating at 10,000 pounds or more is considered a Commercial vehicle and any vehicle under 10,000 pounds is a standard vehicle.

And I don’t want to pay extra..bottom line

Take it to a business that sells landscaping stones. They usually have a scale & will weigh the truck for you. You get a printed ticket with the weight. That should be good enough for the DMV.

My 1 1/2 ton weighs about 6500 pounds with a 12' bed with a hydraulic dump. I would guess yours weigh around 6000 pound at best,

it's GVW that they go by, not shape, and there's no chance your truck would have a 10000# GVW, which starts w/ the smallest 1.5T

the regular 3600 has a factory GVW of 5200# and the dually option makes it 6900#

I was under the impression that any pickup in CA had to be registered as a commercial vehicle. Is that wrong?

I know in Ca. that if the truck has a flatbed on it it has to cross the scale regaaurdless of the weight that was per the Ca. DOT only pick up trucks with a regular box are exempt according to them.

well my truck is only a 1 ton, but has a flatbed, and the plates that are on it are not comercial plates. so it has to go by the gvw, not the bed type. and i realy hate california dmv. :mad: they wanted me to register a car in calif, so i could take it to oregon to register it. they wouldnt issue a trip permit for it until they got some money. :rolleyes:

I have a 46 1.5 ton flatbed with the dual rear wheels.
I took it to a truck stop and had it weighed and they gave me an 'offical' ticket with the weight on it.
Mine was 5180 pounds with my fat butt in it.
So subtract about 225#, uh, OK, OK, subtract
245# and that gives you the weight.
But, the main thing, try a truck stop.

Yea Ill find a scale but I haven't registered the truck yet. The commercial registration fee is almost $200.
My old car that was a 1964 model was only about $34.
