I got my cab back from the blaster last weekend. Slipped it up on the frame and set the radiator support and one front fender on to see what it might look like someday.

My main curiosity was the results of the front end lowering I had done. This truck has 2 1/2 - 3 inch Durant Enterprise mono leaf springs and a 2 1/2 inch drop in the front axle from Mor-drop in California.

Here are a couple pictures:

http://home.twcny.rr.com/schickling/1940Chevy/rebuild/DSCN2239.JPG

Certainly not in the weeds and the only time my front bumper will be on the ground is right before I bolt it back on to the truck. But I really like it. The rear of the truck is also using Durant monoleaf springs and 2 inch lowering blocks. Could be lower but not this time around.

Thanks for looking.

Sits real nice.

Mind if I ask, how much does a set of Durant springs cost?

Thanks,

Thanks for the encouragement.

51 KY 3100 - I believe I paid between $350 - $375 for a pair. CPP http://www.classicperform.com/ has them for $378.

Joker,

I wish that was possible. It has been over two years since I had it rebuilt. I don't know why but I started working on the engine before I even had the truck. I knew what I wanted with the engine for a long time. I would love to hear this engine come to life. smile

Everyone,

Again thanks for the positive comments. I've gotten alot of help from stovebolt.com and the people associated with it.

Woogeroo,

My engine is a 235 from a 1960 Biscayne. I had it rebuilt by a local machine shop. Nothing fancy, 30 over on the pistons and an RV cam. The intake is a water cooled Edmunds Custom. The carburetors are Stromberg BXOV-2s. These were the hardest pieces to find! Once I had the intake and the air cleaners, I had to find an Edmunds valve cover. They are hard to find and I probably paid to much for it. But in the process I have found more. The average price is usually around $450.00. Before getting into trucks I spent a lot of time on British cars and that is where I learned to like the look of copper hard lines. The engine is attached to a t-5 transmission.

Thanks for asking.

Where did you find the Edmund pieces? Were you just in the right place at the right time?

49_chevy_truck,

The air cleaners can be had on ebay on a pretty regular basis, Charlie Price at Vintage Speed is reproducing them. He has a web site also. The intake manifold isn't that rare. It usually comes up for sale on ebay and other places as well. The valve cover is in the hens teeth catagory. I know of others but the oweners are not willing to sell. I have never seen an Edmund's side cover. I don't know if they even made one. I would love to know if they did. I have another valve cover that I would be willing to trade for the side cover. The side cover I will eventually put on the engine is a Stovebolt Engine Company one I found. Also very rare. I showed it to Tom Langdon and he had never seen one before. He said the previous owner must have had them made.

Thnaks for asking.

Bill- I have many intakes and valve covers, but have never seen a Edmunds valve cover before until you posted pics of yours. I hope you don't mind that I "borrowed" one of your engine pics to use as my background on my confuser screen for awhile. I really like that Edmunds cover! If you would consider selling your spare valve cover, please email me. I don't have an Edmunds side cover to trade, and have never seen one. I do have 3 or 4 different variations of Edmunds intakes though.

I believe the Edmunds air cleaners are cast by Dennis at O'Brien Truckers in Charlton, MA. and Charlie Price and others resell them. Some of the linkage pieces that Charlie sells come from Marty at Northwest Speed in Portland. As far as I know, Vintage Speed makes nothing, but does assemble some nice looking multi-carb. setups if you can get Charlie to get them done and send them.

Yes, the Stovebolt Engine Co. side covers were sold by the original owner (Ron I think it was?)of the Stovebolt Engine Co. when it was in Washington or Oregon. Up until last week I had some of their old catalogs from the late '80's that showed that same side cover, but I pitched the catalogs in the great "office" clean up of 2005. Wife declared that the floor could no longer be used as a filing cabinet. I figured as long as I knew what was in each pile, floor and filing cabinet were one and the same. Oh well.

Bill,

Your mention of the Stromberg carburetors jogged my memory. Years ago I had a 235 with the Offenhauser three carb manifold. I built the engine from info I found in the How To Hot Rod the Chevy 6 book.

They recommended using three BXVD Stromberg single barrels...I went to the local carb shop and ordered three new ones. They looked cool and worked great. I wonder if those things are still around and how much they would be?

Barry - Thanks for the info and don;t mind you using the picture. I'm honored. I will email you about the valve cover.

Stuart - A quick search and you can still find the bxvd-3 carbs. They will actually fit the 235 manifold better than the bxov-2. So go out and build yourself another one. smile
