| | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 314 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 314 | After having put the alternator from the donor van in the '48 last weekend, I found that it wasn't charging... then the stovebolt page went down and I couldn't ask for help... I searched around the web and found out that the "Dummy" light wire isn't just for "Dummies". It also supplies the power to excite the alternator into action. I installed a dummy light and got the alternator working.
I also started fabrication on the new dump body. The original is beyond salvage. The new one is being modeled after the original, with some minor dimensional changes. On Sunday, we had a local show, in the parking lot of a boot/western wear store. I took both the 46, and the 52.
No tropies, but I did walk away with the grand door prize. It's a garage in a box...
It has a pair of chocks, jack stands, a hydraulic floor jack, and a creeper.

Hated the thought of drilling the hole in the dash though.
Also, I read somewhere that the exciter wire needed to have at least 35 ohms of resistance to keep from frying the regulator. Said goodbye to Ziggy (50 1/2 ton) on Sunday as his new owner (a 17 year old kid who wanted it to pull his home built teardrop trailer!) and as soon as the Okie from Miskokie picks up the '50 2 ton, i'll have some space cleared up to start putting the new box on the '46 big bolt and hopefully start building my new 40x60 garage/pole building.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

Mine is the "before" examlpe and the other one is the "after" example. Also a '51 Merc and a '55 Buick. Did about 120 miles total, went for the BEST BURGER IN ALASKA at the Monderosa.
