I pulled the sending unit and all looks ok except instead of a brass float on the end it has cork! It looks factory as there is a washer with a very neat little knurl on the shaft to hold it on. My guess is that the cork has gotten super saturated over the last half century and stayed sunk on the bottom like a Russian submarine. I ordered a brass float from JC but it has no holes through the center and I think it accepts a ring type attachment. Now I'm just thinking about putting new cork on it. Any ideas what might work? Could I drill the brass float and JB Weld the rod to it? Does JB Weld or any other epoxy dissolve in gasoline?

I think they are around $40. You may get a cork float on there and it still dosen't work. You might want to check it with an ohmeter and see if it really works first. Good luck. | | |
