We also have a donor Chevy van. It is a IRWIPI 12 years ago - freebie that I figured we might get something useful out of so we towed it home. I was curious as to whether or not it would actually run, so I hooked up a set of jumper cables, poured a little gas in the carb and cranked it over.
Wouldn't you know it, it sparked to life. It sat there running on 12 year old gasoline for about fifteen minutes, then I threw it into reverse and it actually moved, so I put it in drive and it moves forward as well. I am totally amazed!... I didn't even lube the cylinders first!

I got it started on the 15+ year old gas. It ran but it was a little lean. I cleaned the carb and it ran better but still lean. I think that the gas had lost most of its volatility. It since ran out of gas and I havent had time to pour fresh stuff in and try again. I do know that todays fuels go varnishy in a few months. I was amazed at the old gas. | | |
