Got the engine in this week end!!! Its looking goooood!
Here is the question.
I have found two oil filter canisters in my box of parts. One with four mounting holes and one with three in a trangular shape. (note: there was a '40 GMC doner involved)
First, were these stock back then?
Second which one do you think goes on to my truck?
Third, where were they mounted? I thought the firewall but I can't line up any holes. I have seen a pic where it was hanging off the intake manifold.
Any help out there tonight?

I don't think that a filter was stock...

With that said...hanging off the manifold is where I would put mine. My Fram was hanging there when I got my truck.

There is a pic (should be called C20) in my webshots account.) I have not put my filter back on yet. Still planning a major tear down in the fall so I hate to put it on only to take off.

The filter with the three mounting bolts sounds like a GMC.

You can use either one-you just have to make lines long enough to reach it wherever you decide to mount it. How about putting it on the back side of the left running board panel? It's up out of the way,easy to get to and gets a pretty good airflow for a little additional cooling.

Rusty, the three bolt sure could be for the GMC. It mounts somewhat at an angle since the bracket is angled.
46, your Pics are what I saw before. I think that is a nice location but I may look into the running board area as speed suggested.
With it not being stock, just like the heater, I guess you can put it anywhere you want.

Steve, I noticed in one of the pics of a GMC that the filter mounts on the bottom of the block just like the one I have might bolt up.
Does your GMC have mounts on the block?
And, no problem if you need it. First ask first get. e-mail me. maybe you have something I need.

I will send you some pics detailing the one that mounts to the block. They are called "Inner Line Filters". I added a new folder in my album titled "accessories" and put oil filter photos along with a lot of the other accessories that were available back then. Hope it helps.
