There sure wasn't much creative effort put forth in this years entries. It seems the theme of the contest got lost somewhere. Hell I could walk out in my back yard and take pictures of rows of junkers. How does this typify "It ran when I parked it"? And some of them look like they were driven to the spot just for the picture. And what's with the multiple entries? I couldn't vote for anyone's picture who submitted more than one. In fact it was hard to vote for any considering what the theme was supposed to be.

Don't hold back cletis . . . unless you vent your spleen from time to time, you can wind up with a sour attitude. grin

I had a great time with this contest in the past and been honored with a nice bunch of goodies for a win grin I gotta admit, my wife and I were underwhelmed as well with this years batch.

Anybody remember canopy depressed? I still drive by that truck a few times a month. I am just about ready to drive my '38 canopy express by his place just so he can see what he could have had if he had just parked it in the garage.

Clestis - actually the theme of the contest was more for us. Since we got started late on the contest, we figured we didn't want to hunt down a judge. Hence the idea of "you don't get a vote." And it did tie in with the election year.

And, Cletis -- it was suppose to be funny :p

There are some good shots in there -- so you should be sure to vote for the "People's Choice." And since we were doing a calendar, that's why we let people send in more than one ... and even send in one they may have sent before.

Maybe the idea of IRWIPI has been lost? John and I were wondering that. We've been getting Christmas cards from friends - with their Stovebolt on the cover. We wondered if we should put It Ran to bed and instead have folks send us their Christmas cards. Of course, that would make a weird calendar grin but it would be something for ... WINTER !!!

(No calendar - I was kidding

:p

Give it at least one more shot...If we start talking about it next month, and talk it up all year, a few more might send in some shots. I plan on it.

Perhaps we should be more specific about the photo submissions?

If people had more head-way, would that help?

What are the rules? In 1974 a 23 year old kid, parked his Suburban in the pasture. Over the years someone had jumped the fence and stole the carb. as well as a couple of emblems. It sat there for 20 years with a note in the drivers side window, stating the Suburban was not for sale. Well I guess everything's for sale for the right price. I bought it from the 43 year old guy, that parked it there. I loaded it on a trailer, towed it 400 miles. When I got it home, I put a new / used carb. on it, pulled the fuel line and dropped it in a can of two stroke gas, filled the carb, bowl and she started right up. I thought the photo would make a great calendar photo. By spring 2005 I hope it will be ready for a Hot Rod calendar. But, then I think rows of all kinds of Stovebolts belong in calendars.

Well, the contest ran for too short a time. I guess it needs to be rushed now to make it a useful calender. Also, I think some people still don't understand that you CAN submit digital pictures and win the contest. The only problem is that the editors required a hard copy of the photo to be included on the calender. This needs to run all year to get good stuff. It takes a lot to get some of us bolters of our duffs.

We had folks asking all year if we were going to do it. But it was a bad time -- just prior to nuking the Lounge.

I forgot who pushed us over the edge on this, tho. Someone said that Hemmings wouldn't have their Abandoned Trucks calendar any more. That was a GREAT calendar (and also a prize  ). So, we figured we should do something.

Oh ... we also had a hard time coming up with a theme. The election idea was mine (remember, I'm NOT the creative one in this team). But it's turned out well - since we've waffled several times during the contest grin :p

So ... it's all for fun. But, yea. Definitely keep an eye out for those great It Ran photos. And if "It Ran When Parked" and is RUNNING AGAIN ... there will be much rejoicing in all of Stovebolt land, perhaps even to the outter reaches of the universe.

(I'm working on my creativity here frown )

I've only been here for the better part of a year so next year, I'm going to participate better. I find everything about this site entertaining and like being a part of it, even if all I do is drop smartass comments from time to time. I voted but didn't get to send an entry in. I will definately get one done next year. Thanks for the site John and Peg, and where is your profile picture?
