Boyd must have been courting his mother to keep him on that long.

Then they go and buy a 29 Ford pickup in perfect running condition. This old man worked on it for 10 years. He reminded me of a lot of you guys. He had a story for everything. They buy his truck and tear it apart. Now they are going to cut it. I actually reached for the remote, I almost couldn't take it. At least it was a Ford I kept thinking.

This show could be so good. Seeing guys build cars, weld, find parts etc. Instead we get a millionair who can afford to buy anything he wants and then he tears it up, puts a bunch of bling on it and a Chevy 350 ofcourse, lots of billet, DONE! What a waste.

Saw the show last night as well. I guess they use a plan where they get lugnuts to tune in for the metal and add "drama" in the relationships (or fighting!) to engage everyone who doesn't like watching wrenchin'. Worked for the "american Chopper" sereis. We're all voyeurs and enjoy looking over the fence at someone else's fights. I like what Boyd does with customs, but it is not what I choose to do to my rigs. I am impressed with the hard work the shop grunts put in and the results show. The Ford Model A truck was pretty sweet to begin with and the old guy had other rods around the garage, but to each his own. We see the same thing around here as some like it stock and others prefer the wild modified look. A rat rod to some is just another rat!

Like you, I'd prefer more insight into why they do things than focus on the drama. We never got more insight into why Boyd felt boxing the framerails would be a NECESSARY safety feature, just heard his opinion over and over and over (bleeping) over. He didn't do a good job of convincing Bluebear and me that it was essential.

I'll still watch 'cuz I like the projects and see some of my own buddies in the clowns around the shop.

The frame was already cracked and when one guy was jacking on the chassis one day he saw major flexing. That is right where the front suspension is mounted.

I like ratrods. But they should have made one out of the one that they found in the desert. Man was that staged or what? It was buried to the axles alright, by a bulldozer.

But to cut apart that near museum piece was rediculous. I thought he was such a big innovator in the industry. I have seen almost every episode and all I see is him bolting on parts and some of his own wheels. The only guy that works hard is the painter, he is cool and actually normal. And why does everything always have to happen in a certain amount of weeks? All those shows have the silly deadlines. I guess that is how long the film crew is scheduled for?

I guess Bluebear getting fired was the equivalent to Ami getting voted off Survivor.

I think firing Bluebear was to good for him, I did not see the episode last night, but I would have liked to see someone beat him.............

All these rod/bike/resto shows don't show anything but griping and bitching bosses and employees. Certainly no "how-to" is entertained or even approached by anybody. It's just "get the project done before the deadline" garbage. The only one that's remotely fun to watch is where the guy gets his "stolen" car back in way nicer shape than when it left his driveway.

Then there's "Pimp My Ride" which actually make cars look worse than when they went it, leaving with things like fireplaces and water heaters installed. Too ^#%$@ goofy for me.

Well, back to the shop...

Has anyone found anything interesting on TV lately?Reality shows?reality my a--.nothing real about them.Used to be some good shows on HGTV,all gone.Overhaulin is about the only thing I will watch.Course it must be easy to build a super streetrod when money is no problem,and you have a dozen people working on it.Just pick up thr phone and order a new Edelbrock engine and a built auto tranny and drop them in.

Tony M, I heard that Charlie the painter went to work for Chip Foose and is working on some big project. Who knows, Bluebear will probably end up there too. I thought that Bluebear was right standing up for what he believed was true to a real rat rod and not wanting to box his frame the way that Boyd wanted him too, but he should have just bowed out of the project in stead of disrespecting Boyd the way he did and putting the other guys in the middle. I still think most of this stuff is scripted though. Whatever, I still watch these shows for the fabrication part of it and to see the final product.

Bill, Bluebear told Duane "it ain't a rat rod" on one conversation....Boyd could be partially responsible for an unsafe vehicle leaving his shop. Also, from what I've seen, B.B. doesn't have the workmanship to work for Chip Foose. Good for Boyd for lettin' him go, he had more chances then he deserved, Bluebear was a real clown.

Bluebear got to build a car, spending anything he wanted, using his bosses money, his bosses shop and his bosses unlimited skilled crew. All this was while he was getting paid for it. He never realized the opportunity. This could have been like a $100K car easy. Then he wouldn't do it the way his boss wanted, cya.
They should rehire the two guys that were fired earlier because of the harassment they received from bluebear on the job. TV show or not, the guy with the sheep jokes should have gotten even after work.

would any of you trust your money to an outfit that acts like they do. paintball water baloons, bb guns and the like. maybe that is why boyd has a younger wife he is going thru is not second but third child hood. on one show the wheels wouldn't fit, so they had to use spacer and then couldn't get the right ones, here stands the guy who is paying 150,000 for that joke. the only show i really like is trucks and i am a little envious of the unlimited budgets and tools they have. they are like norm abrams of cars just pull out you 4000.00 plasma cutter and get started. who me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trucks is ok but it drips a bit too much with testosterone. The way they slap parts and tools on the bench and talk tough with a stiff upper lip. Then they come back after the commercial and all the welding is done perfectly. You know they didn't do any of it. "Yeah, I am tough and I am manly and I like trucks" For real they are probably lovers...

I think of all the build type shows I enjoy the A...is Born the most. The guy who does it pays really close attention to detail and respects the vehicle he is working on. I enjoyed the '40's Harley he did and the Bonneville and the Jag. He even has a cost tally on the chalkboard.

I do enjoy American Chopper, but it gives my wife stress to watch it. It amazes me to watch them get away with using step drills and vise grips to install stuff and get away with it.

After watching his show I lost a lot of the respect I had for Coddington. He seems like a real jerk. I think Foose does some nice work but I think I would cry if he got ahold of my truck and slapped a V8 in it.

Ya I watch all of the shows listed above, American chopper & hotrod, Overhaulin, Trucks, Monster Garage, etc. You all are complaining about how these guys have all this money well they do. Theres one show on TLC Called rides and my favorite episode was the one with the Burbank Choppers. Now the rat rod they made was a ratrod. I dont think they spent much money on it either. The Whole club helped build it, they used all used parts and everything, it was a true rat rod The Way Boyd wanted it it would be a hot rod. I wish I had 100k to do my truck right but that will not happen until I finish my education and get a really really really well paying job.

I like overhaulin but it pisses me off when they do celebrity cars. Like these people couldn't afford to do it themselves? Naw, help some normal guy out and make his dream come true.

I'd also like to add to my post. I was just going to go and watch american hotrod and in Canada Discovery has decided to change the programing for a few months. They have replaced it untill the end of december with a show called Ultimate cars and we dont get the rat rod build off until Feb 1st, 2005. O well, 1 hour less spent on the couch means more time for homework and time spent turning wrenches.

I would like to see a documentary style show about the different styles of car/truck building. No drama, no deadlines, no side stories, just facts and explanations. I've quit watching Monster Garage, American Chopper and all of them automotive soap operas. I still watch Rides when I remember it's on since it's just a filmed show with a narrator without much drama. I like Dennis Guage too, but too many commercials and too little cars. Somebody should go around to carshows and just film and breifly highlight the cars and trucks. I could watch that kind of stuff for hours.

Only saw the Coddington program once and it was enough. Scripted? Indeed just like WWF or as it is now called WWE. I think. That's what I was told as I don't watch it.....!

The old WWF (now WWE) got sued by the World Wildlife Federation because the wildlife people said they "owned" the letters "WWF" and that the 'rasslers were infringing on their trademark! Showboater 'rasslers getting sued by tree-huggers. Bet that was a funny day in the courtroom!

Imagine all the confusion people must've had, sending in their donations to the 'rasslers when they thought they were supporting wildlife! Hmmm...!

FOOSE........ DA'MAN......young ...and i like to see him come up with the ideas...(MONEY) i think the man has the money and he also enjoys what he does,,,i mean , you see the man get dirty ,,,,i would also like to see the howto shows...i think that his show is about the clossest that i have seen ............gary

I enjoyed reading all the posts more than I enjoyed the shows ! I would like to see a whole show with Boyd's painter I'm sure he could give everyone some great body working tips.

I watch all of the above mentioned shows. There is a lot of DRAMA but I pick up a little something here and there. Ya'll should watch Southern Chopper, the old guy with the white beard is a metal artist! This show trys to do a little DRAMA but shows a lot more work being done.

Of all the car shows, I like the variety and pace on RIDES best.

First get out of the big easy chair.Go too the car cruises.Ask guestions???.These people are real and at your level of cash.They will help ya out and tell how too and where to get parts you need.The sun shine and beer are good.Also don't forget this site,the guys will help you out'just ASK questions????
