Wayyyy back when I joined Stovebolt, one of the members here wrote me to tell me that a Datsun (or Nissan) Dash/Instrument Panel was exactly the right size for a '37, would bolt right in and look great too...

The problem is the email is long gone and so are the notes I made on it at the time... frown

I believe they were telling me it was a Digital dash/Instrument cluster from a Nissan 300ZX but as I said that was long ago and I can't really recall... ohwell

Has anyone ever heard of this or do they remember writing to tell me about the idea several months ago? If so I'd sure appreciate you writing again or posting the information here...

Thanks!

Thanks Joe, Caroline and Jim, but it wasn't a post (I had already searched posts for this before asking)... it was an email... I just wish I could remember who had sent it to me! frown

What I had been told was not that just the gauges would fit but the entire dash piece complete with gauges, no fabrication required...

I don't know if this is true, but it sounded pretty cool at the time so I decided to revisit the idea, then found the email and notes were gone... :hammering:

Hopefully whoever wrote it back then will see this and send me the info again so this time I can DO it! wink

Thanks for your help linking to those posts anyway guys... much appreciated!

Trevor: it was probably me that mentioned this to you early on when you joined the stovebolt mafia. The 260 and I think the 280 are the ones your talking about. I may not be right on this but it seems the guys over at Import Zone told me 300 would work but do NOT quote me on that.

What I do know is the 260 GUAGES will work. I have a set of the guages that I took out of one over at Import Zone and the chrome bezels off the 37 will "snap" right over the edges of the "Z" guages and you can bolt them right in the holes. Perfect fit.
I have NOT tried the speedometer yet but according to the link here at stovebolt it will work to with a little modification. I've been meaning to stop back by Import Zone and see if Terry will let me get the speedometer out of the same car I got the guages.
NOTE: several years, according to "Terry" are the same. Just different color scheme's. Mine are black with white marks.(I think. I put them up in the attic) Some are white with black marks or perhaps black with red marks.....you get the picture.
I have a pic somewhere that I maybe able to find and send to you. I know I took one with the bezels off the 37 on them. They "snap" on real snug but they go without damaging them.
I paid over $300 to get my ORIGINAL guages repaired the way I wanted them and I could have bought a set of the "Z" guages for lots less. I saw this tip in the stovebolt AFTER I did mine.

Thanks Sir Alvin...

To be honest nothing is wrong with the gauges I have... I just hate the way they are mounted (the PO did a very cheesy job of installation) so I considered since I'm hot rodding it anyway how cool a digital dash might be... especially if what I remembered was right and a 300Z dash/instrument panel would bolt right in...

I'll look into it a bit more and see what I can find out... One thing for sure though, by the time the gauges are installed in the dash this time they will look good and be done right... grin

Thanks (as always) for your help, Mr Chipmunk! wink
