I would like to replace the bucket seats from my 54 that were added by last owner. I would like a bench seat in leather. Can anybody point me in a direction of a donor vehicle. I've heard mini-van second seats, but would like an idea of what vehicles to look for at the treasure yard.

dv8, seats from a 2000 or newer buick lesabre will work and they have built in shoulder belts and nice console. have been quoted 125.00 complete and that is less than a three point seatbelt conversion. ron

If a person were to put the seats you mentioned into their truck, do you have to chop out the existing sheetmetal that holds the old seat frame?

dv8, i have not done it yet buuuuuut i would think that would be the case. you would have to build a riser to span the dip in the floor. i was told by a fellow bolter in a previous post that there are spot welds and they have to be carefuly drilled out. it does not look to hard. i have fornd acouple of seats locally but they were either cloth or damage was to the driverside door and intruded on the seats, i am still looking. btw there is a special tool from eastwood and other places to drill out the spot welds with little damage to the floor. go to www.autonetworkinc.com and click on parts and go to 2000 buick lesabre for pictures. ron

the spot welds hold the seat base in the old truck . you would have to remove it to install the new seat i don't think you could install the seat on top of the old base. ron

Don't drill out the spots welds, only to have to fill them. Use an angle grinder to take out the seat base. About 30-mins to smooth.

A spot weld cutter from the top will just leave little spots to smooth out.

I used up 2 spotweld cutters before I got the left side cowl off my '54 GMC. Then I thought about a 3/8" drill I bought from NAPA for another job. I don't know what the drill was designed for but the way it is sharpened it has a point in the center to put in a pilot hole and cutting points on the outside diameter. It worked great on spotwelds.
