Does anyone know what the correct rearview mirror for a 46 1/2 ton would look like. Is it the same or similar to the AD style that mounts to the center post of the windshield, or is there a difference?

Jed - You are talking about the interior rearview mirror, right? Well the 46's didn't have one. Just an outside mirror. What the PO did on mine was to attach a Universial type mirror to the header piece above the windshield. It seems to work just fine but it's black plastic. I'm thinking of looking for a chrome one for a replacement.

Hello Jed - I don't think the 41-46 series truck came from the factory with a inside rear view mirror. I've looked at alot of 39-46 trucks and although some had mirrors, the type of mirror and the location has varied. And none I've seen look like they were made specially for the truck. I don't find a part number for one and if you look at an original header panel, there are no holes for a mirror arm. Anyone have other information ?

Thanks guys for trying to help. The information you've got, is just the kind of thing that I've been coming up with... However, it's difficult at times to drive without one, so I may end up engineering something. I'm kind of thinking I can use one similar to my 52 and use the type of mount that attaches via the windshield screws. I would sure like to know if anyone else has ever seen the genuine article or ? on a 46 though... Anyone???

I agree with rusty46, I don't think that they were not an option. I have seen modified mirrors on them, mostly header mounted. If you try and mount them like the AD trucks you will have to consider the opening of the windshield. The AD trucks are fixed windshields. Those AD's that came with mirrors had the center trim bar designed with a threaded bolt hole in them.

I remember the old Triump TR3 having their's mounted on the dash, they were taller than most mounts, something that you would have to consider with the high rear window.

Here is an option that might look good on your's with some modifications.

GM Thanks for the link. Could probably make something like that work. Think you might be correct about the opening windshield creating some challenges. Guess I'll have to give it some more thought and work out some details.

Jed, If you find a mirror you like and before you drill any mounting holes, you might want to some how stick it on and try it first. I like the look of the one that I mounted (don't know what it came from but it's old), but it's almost in the way. Sometimes when I make a certain kind of right turn I have to actually bend my head down to see past it, kinda blocks my view sometimes....and I'm an average height person. Steppenwood, I like the looks of that mirror. Sure wished you knew what it came from. By the way, I've seen your truck in the gallery. Man that one's beautiful. You did an awesome job on it.

i went to the junk, sorry salvage yard years ago and got a mirror out of a newer car and mounted it to the windshield. the place i went had the window mounting piece, arm and mirror. be careful how high mount it. i got the glue at auto zone. ron

The mirror in my 46 pickup is EXACTLY as the one shown in Steppenwoods. How can this be if Chevy didn't provide one? I have seen several of this exact mirror over the years and I've owned a half dozzen of the 41 to 46 trucks. Maybe certain plants or dealer bought these in bulk, my truck was built in Oakland.

Well, I found mine in a box of oddball parts. I also had to drill mounting holes. So, I don't think it's original. Looks decent though. Oh yeah, thanks for the kind words, john.

Well I really like the looks of Steppenwoods mirror, (stock or not). I guess I'll keep hunting to try and find something similar.

Wow! That's exactly what my mirror is. I had to grind off and blend in that extra tab in the middle so it would bolt flat onto the surface. Too bad it came from a Ford. I still really like the look of it though.....alot.

John-I think that mirror on your truck looks better than any I've seen. I like the shape of the mirror and the roll on the mirror edge and the mounting bracket as well. I also like the location. Excellent all around.

Thanks for the e-bay post. Unfortunately, I was out of town, and didn't see it until today. Missed it, as it ended yesterday. At least I know what type of vehicle and years etc. that it came from. I'll be better suited to find one now. Thanks again.
