Turns out the connecting bar is broken on both sides, between the first and second screws. Any ideas how to get the broken ends out? Thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 4,886 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 4,886 | It's not going to just pull out due to rust. You might try drilling down through it to relieve some pressure of the rust, or soaking each end in some Evap-o-rust to see it loosens up. I remember my '37's being a pain to work on. | | | | Joined: Jan 2022 Posts: 11 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2022 Posts: 11 | You're not kidding about the rust! It took several soaks of PB Blaster, vice grips, and a hammer to get out the broken piece! Thanks for the feedback, Joe. | | | | Joined: Jan 2022 Posts: 11 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2022 Posts: 11 | Well, broken connector bar problem solved: since neither end would come out, I wound up driving them further into the frame so the new bars span the holes.
On to cleaning, painting, and reassembly! | | |
