I have started to work on Tools for a Cure 2005. Just wondering if anyone out there has a tool company to recomend? I have most of the majors but I know that there are a lot of companies out there that I may have missed. I don't care what they make, if they make a Quality tool I would like to know about them. Who do you have? I get service from the obvious, Snap-On, Mac Tools and Matco. All of them sell the off brands too,

Scott I have all the major Power hand tool companies: Dewalt, Makita, Porter Cable, Black and Decker, so on and so forth. What I am looking for is the High Quality small makers. The ones that you don't find in the HOME DEPOT's and Lowes, but might find in a MA and Pa Hardware Store.

The type of a Tool that you buy or get and once you use it you tell all your buddies about it because it is so good. Those are the companies that I am looking for.

How 'bout Astro Pneumatic? I was really impressed with their mig welders and they make a lot of air tools and other stuff as well.
We use a lot of SK tools at work. I like 'em as much as Snap-On which we use as well.

How about Klein tools, they make great Electrical tools also Greenlee another Electrical tool manufacturer. I like Porter-Cable, Panasonic and Milwaukee, S and K, Snap-on, Proto and Miller welders. .........g

How about TP Tools - they sell things like sandblasting equipment.

I own a cabinet and furniture shop and we use almost exclusively King tools, I love them, and they have been around for ages, but for whatever reason whenever I tell someone about them they say 'I've never heard of them'. They are a Canadian company, but I don't suppose that matters does it?

for Christmas I got a Drill Doctor. It is really quite the tool for sharpening drill bits. I don't have the skill to do them by hand but this gadget gives very nice results. I find that I dull drill bits fairly quickly while working on the truck.

Fred Last years #3 prize was a Drill Doctor! Very nice tool. That is the down side to being the organizer of this Raffle, I cant win any of the prizes! But that is ok, I would much rather have a Cure for my Daughter!

I like Bosch and Hitachi power tools, which are not as common as most but still very good.

I like Tektronix for electronics tools, but I am obviously biased since I design them for a living.

Josiah Bosch and Hitachi are on my list but Textronix, I am not sure that I have that one.

my Dad youst to work in the aerospace industry in the structure department.he gave me a litlle box of bits that remarkable,havent sharpened one yet.

Not a stovebolt tool, but if you know anyone who works on bicycles...they are probably using the blue handled Park tools.

I have a tool box full for my "other" hobby.

46 When I was in high school I worked on Bicycles and I know that Park Tools are among the best out their. Thanks I will add them to my list!

When it comes to wire cutters, screwdrivers, and other electonics tools, the only tool for me is made by Xcelite

Weller soldering irons are top on my list for must have tools.. i'd be up a creek if I didn't have my Weller Port-A-Sol iron.

Weller and Xcelite tools are both owned by Cooper Tools, if thats of any help.

I didn't know Tektronix made hand tools.. but their waveform monitors, scopes, and spectrum analyzers can't be beat.. not to mention i've still running one of their old dye-sub printers.

For handheld meters, I really like Fluke.

Not really a list of mechanic tools, but quality tools, none the less.

Fumblin46 Thanks for the suggestions. By the way folks this isn't just Mechanic Tools. Any type of Tool is welcome. I am currently working on getting either a laptop or a desk top computer donated for the Raffle. Any product that helps you do something easier or better or faster would qualify in my book as a TOOL.

Have you tried Williams, Stanley, Proto, Enco, Starret, Brown and Sharp a couple of these are machinist tool companys. At work we get alot of stuff from Tool Crib Supply out of Kansas City.

Grizzley (go for the 7x10 metal lathe, I'll buy a whole bunck of tix.

I don't know Jim the Shipping might be a little much for a Metal Lathe. However for the cost of a stamp I will give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestion.

I was conversing via email with a fellow stovebolter today and he asked for the list of venders that I already have. My reply was I will email it to you tonight. Well that isn't gonna happen because it is 563 venders on my list. I can't find a good way to edit it into an email. I would gladly post it here but is is 12 pages long. Please don't get me wrong I am not trying to be bostfull of this list. I personally think it is woefully too small and very imcomplete. That is why I asked for your help. So far I have added 8 or more companies that were suggested. So I Thank you guys again.

Some have a better ratcheting mechanism internally,,do your research..

When I was working for a chevy dealership we were afforded as mechanics to buy "goodwrench" brand tools, now I do not know if they were made for them by someone else or not, and had there names put on them, but I never have had 1 of them break yet, have lost a few though, usually after having people help me with projects. I think some of them grew pockets, or maybe the tools grew legs.

I'll second the Goodwrench tools -- almost all of my sockets and ratchet handles are Goodwrench. No problems yet, and some have been somewhat abused.
