I took the truck to a shop where it was reborn 13 years ago, BTW the new owner of the shop is a disabled vet. I going to try and stay away and give him a chance. I told him it was okay to push into a corner and take his time on it. It should not be a priority over an everyday vehicle. But I am still anxious to see what went wrong. For it to quit so abruptly at the start of the trip to KC I guess better there than on the way home. Thanks to JDL for coming to the rescue. ohwell

Well Ron, you just committed the ultimate classic vehicle sin! “Push it into a corner and take his time”. Never ever tell a repair shop that. There is a good chance you’ll be visiting your truck instead of driving your truck until you no longer care. I can’t tell you the number of classics I’ve seen setting in the back corner of a shop. Always tell them it’s your daily driver and you need it back ASAP. He’s going to charge you the same as if it were a late model car owned by a family of four who use it every day to take the kids to school. Your truck will likely be sold at auction by the shop for unpaid work after you pass. Morbid, but highly probable! I wish you and your truck the best. JMO

Ron, I guess if your friends can't give you the hard truth, who can. Martin, I am scheduled to drop one of my trucks off at a repair shop in a couple weeks. (for an issue I can't figure out and has stumped this group) I will keep your advice in mind.

That's more to the truth than you may think. Ron, it's a good thing you have friends here, I would hate to hear what one of your enemies would say...

He worked on my everyday driver and I am to pick it up today at 9 a.m. I asked to keep the charges on the 2 vehicles separate and he said there were no charges for the truck. On the other vehicle, he replaced the front brakes and a few other things that I knew were iffy. My car seems to be the taxi for doctor visits in and out of town. So I want to keep it reliable. dance ohwell

Sir, Electrical issues can be difficult to pinpoint at times. Ask me how I know. My 2000 Chevrolet C3500 dually has been at my local shop for 3 months & just yesterday the owner & I chatted. We think it will be ready soon. Patients is a virtue. Glad your seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks Ron. V/r, Nick

My shop has work spaces for 17 vehicles but right now there are 21 crammed into it and just for the heck of it I did a count of how many have been taken away from other shops for non-work being done. The count is 13 with nearly all being in the corners of BODY shops. A body shop will take on a resto during slow times but drop it if insurance work picks up.

In my effort to sort out the 54 I looked for a shop that said it works on classics and found it close to home. I took the truck there during the stated hours. I parked and went to the door and it was locked but before I could someone stuck their head out of the door so I got out and went to the door and it was locked so I tapped on the door and there were about 5 guys sweeping and a guy talking on his cell phone and I asked are you open and he said yes so I stated my issue and they all came outside. They commented on the truck and told me it would be $100.00 an hour to find the problem. Then seemed to lose interest so I left. I took it back to the original guy who was also working on my HHR when I took the HHR home and left the truck, he called an hour later and said he had found the issues. For whatever reason a number of fuses had blown and he only charged me for the fuses. He did not realize I had cruise control and a windshield washer on the truck so we will have to track that down later. ohwell dance

Blown fuses being replaced may get it running for now but if you don't find the reason that they blew you will be there again.

Just a note to all that this thread has been moved to the Electrical Bay for any further conversation/discussion as that the best forum for the topic.

Title edited for clarification of topic. wink
