After retiming the engine, i noticed a new "rattle". Seems like it's coming from about the middle, around cylinders 3&4. Sounds like a loose nut is moving around somehow. i've removed the valve cover and nothing obvious. The engine runs fine and sounds fine other than the rattle. I've removed the pushrod cover, nothing to report. it's definitely inside the engine. any ideas?
thanks a bunch,

My 62 C10 has a 1960 235 in it . It runs good and has good oil pressure. It also ticks and rattles. Runs better than it should 👍

1962 C10 with a 235 6cyl -- all of the drive train seems to be original.

Have you checked the lash on the valves?

If you're convinced the valves are properly adjusted, removing oil pan may be your best option to find a loose nut. That's not a terrible thing, just kinda messy. thumbs_up

Valve adjustment first. But also check for exhaust leaks. All the sheet metal makes exhaust leaks sound like knocks and ticks.

I have a '61 model 235 that has a similar sound, like a nut or something is clanking around in the oil pan intermittently . The engine runs fine so I wonder if it is just exhaust expansion,

Curious why the "re-timing" ? If you put the timing back to where it was before, does the noise go away or is it just coincidence that the noise occured after retiming?
