Hi tri5,

I will try to get all the pics together and get them converted. Any suggestions on the best way to get a pile of pictures converted into a digital format on a cd? I emailed you earlier, I look forward to viewing your pictures.

O.K., I didn't realize the Ron Hairell truck belonged to you guys. Is the truck in North Carolina now, instead of Arizona.

The truck is still in AZ. Ron is my Dad. I live in the Charlotte area now. Thanks for the phone #'s. I'm going to check it out.
The truck is also pictured in the large "baby blue" Chevrolet history book. I can't remember the exact name of the book but it is large and baby blue. Dad has the book along with the other tandem literature we have managed to scrounge up.

Hi guys...The '55-'57 tandem I think I snagged that pic from ad on ebay...

the 194* tandem I can't remember....

the '46 Log truck belonged to a fellow in New Hampshire "**** Cutting"...Check out his website for other Stovebolt pics and other Brands of old trucks...search: **** Cutting's "Working Class" trucks...

Hey the Stovebolt censors would not let you see Mr. Cuttings first name...ha ha ha ha ha .... I'll have to give you a hint....it is short for Richard...as in Richard Nixon or **** Nixon.

I am a little disappointed, surprised, and shocked that such an All American Site as the Stovebolt Site is censoring....don't know what else to say...over and out.

Man Spoon I wist that truck was in better shape I would own it. But I can't see $3200 when it needs that much work. I think I'll be in mine about 20 Gs when done and it was in great shape.

Cripes,

You get dragged off for 5 minutes and you find all these replies. Thanks Spanky, I had a chat with them about the GMC but it's a tag axle with hydraulics so I'll keep a hunting. JD49 those first two photo's are bang on the money if they are as rot free as they look so they must be out there somewhere. There was a 10500 in North Dakota a wee while ago but it was a tag axle grain truck.

Albatross, I don't know if this is any help or even if the guy wants to sell. On Yesterdaystruck web site, truck photos, search on chevy, there is a photo of a 1957 chevy double dually, looks like its used as a farm truck.

If nothing else, its a nice picture.

The truck on Yesterdaytruck is described as a single axle with a two speed rear. Maybe a tag axle was added later?? Or the description is in error? the truck looks to be in pretty good shape from the photo.

It's a bit small size and engine wise. Sorry I thought it was maybe something like a 10500 with the steps under the doors taken off.

Albatross;
I'd jump on the Diamond T in a heartbeat, but I'm insulin dependent diabetic so getting a CDL would be really hard for me. The T has a huge Hercules engine, full air brakes and a 30K GVWR-so if I bought it,I couldn't drive it. I talked to the owner tonight, and he says with a tank of fuel and batteries it could be driven home. The tires are still up,though a little weatherchecked. If you know anybody who might be interested, send 'em over.
Thanks!

speed6351 you can get a non commercial license as long as you're not going to use it commercially. don't know if a medical card would be required. the non commercial licenses are available to farmers, firefighters etc.

I'm old enough to remember late 50's and early 60's gmc and chevy tandems hauling stone from the quarry near my home when I was a kid. some of the gmc's were 671 diesels(will always remember that sound) but the chevys were gas V8s for the most part. There was a 59 chevy tandem cab&chassis on ebay a couple years ago. as I recall it was in either Georgia or N Carolina and from the pics it sure looked like a pulling tandem and not a tag axle. it was painted a faded green and looked to be a fairly solid old truck. Maybe it's still out there somewhere.

There's a 'T.F. Chevy tandem,on"Youtube",with a crane mounted to it. looks pretty beat-up,but still in operation,at the time of video. Sounds like it needs a tune-up,but engine didn't smoke.

Yep,that's the one. looks like the frame is sagging between the back of the cab,and the front tandem. Truck's been worked hard.

Albatross, did you read my P.M.? It's a '52,or '53 "Jimmy",but it's complete. No auxy. trans.,but does have power divider. No air brakes-all hydraulic. Looks to be a Hendrickson set-up. 26,000 G.V.W. Video in my "Photobucket" link...I think July 3rd(?) is when I made the video.

Hi,

Thanks for that but it's a little far gone. Had a look at a '59 that's also a little far gone.

What I'd like is a '58 to '66 factory tandem, full air, Gas powered Chev tractor unit. Can always do a grain truck and put on a 5th wheel. But need the full air for the trailer. Happy to pay a little more as I need it going and roadworthy. There's a farm auction out there somewhere with my name written all over it...........

Does anyone know the number of trucks (2or TON or bigger) produced that had tandem axels (live)/ air brakes/ hydramatics?
Ideally a chart with number of units by year from 1954-1960ish with each configuration.
Thanks

Bases on my 40+ years of Chevrolet research I don't believe you will ever find that info, truck production numbers were not saved. There also isn't anything in the vin/serial number that will tell you if a truck had any of those options.
