Woo hoo!! I actually have the firetruck and it's here ... title and all!

The long version I will be writing up as a saga as the trip out to Michigan this past weekend was... um ... the roadtrip from HELL (details coming in said Saga so wait!) ... but I'll give you a sneak preview ... the trip required three dump trucks, two 20-ton trailers, one 500-yard sprint across highway traffic, three men and a 14-hour layover in a West Virginia rest area ...

Anyway... the truck is a nearly pristine 1965 GMC 4000 with the 306 V-6, 4-speed with the 2-speed rear axle, front mounted 500 GPM Darley pump, 2 booster reels, 30-foot ladder and 1,000 gallon tank. During our first joyride last night, Peggy really got into running the siren grin

Here's the truck loaded on the trailer and ready to make the 600-mile journey to it's new home:

Here's the '86 Autocar single axle dump that was my home for the weekend...

What a beautiful find!

That looks like an expensive pull vehicle...meaning gas for 600 miles?

That is one beautiful fire truck and about as clean as they come! Congrats..

Thanks guys -- Tom, the firetruck only had to go one way -- the A-Car went about 1,200 miles. Through the Western Maryland mountains, we were averaging about 8 MPG with the big Cummins.

Actually, the truck is pretty dirty but that faded red paint hides it well. And both fenders are junk -- which is amazing because the rest of the truck is solid and darn near mint.

Mike -- We'll see youup there Sunday. I may bring one or both of my roadable trucks Saturday and leave 'em, but I'm not sure yet. Monday I was able to put 500 gallons of water in the tank and this morning there was still about 450 still in there (according to the guage). It's leaking around the tank fill line connection but not bad -- it's just marking it's territory grin Gary invited me to bring the truck over to his place tomorrow after work and he's going to show me how to backflush the pump and then we're going to see if it works. Ought to be fun! Hopefully the pump is good or Peggy will most likely kill me...

Jolly -- You got that right! I'll send you a pic for your site! And yes, it has the 305. I never knew the plugs on those motors were on the insides of the heads -- that's really cool!

grin
