we only let it run a few seconds, had little brother fetch some greenish water for the radiator, and while it was filling, water poured out the front of the block, freeze plug gone.
so monday on my day off i pulled the radiator, front shield, and replaced the missing freeze plug, so after many hours it holds water, yeaaa lets fire it up with what fuel is in the carb.
crap
it blew water out the broken exh gasket, out the tail pipe, and pushed the water back up the radiator. drat. as bad as it was pumping water i'm shure its not just the head gasket.
so it's back to the drawing board, or scrap yard.

I am going out on a limb here but sounds like it could possibly be just a gasket. The COE's are my favorite trucks and someday I hope to own one. Best of luck,Hobert

I would even trade my 54 conventional for one, Scott | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 33 Member | | Member Joined: May 2005 Posts: 33 | I think you should look for a later 235. A lot of guys with '60s Impalas,Belairs,Biscaynes yank them to install V8's. Then they darn near give them away. I picked up a 235 from a '62 wagon w/89K miles for $30 recently. This weekend I'm getting one with supposedly 35K miles for $100. Soon I'll have 3 motors for each truck I own. How far south in MO are you? Scott

One of my hot rodding pals here recently rodded a beautiful low-mileage '55 Belair (little old lady car) that had a smooth running, beaut of a 235 that he let me have (it was a boat anchor to him!). So I stuck it on a stand in the back of the shop and it will go in the '49 1-ton if the babbitted 235 ever dies. John

I saw a 235 or a 250 - something I6 - last year that someone dumped out of their truck, plus the sm420 tranny - 'come and get it' last year on the chevytalk.com page classifieds.
