just bought it to get the sheet metal just havnt had the heart to take it apart yet

hyrdalic brakes runs and drives one the fireman i know said all works and would show me how to run pumps if i wanted him to

Might be easier to shorten the fire engine frame and transfer the dump bed onto that chassis.
The dump truck has the Firestone RH-5 rims...not good.

Here's an American LaFrance factory photo of your rig before it left the Elmira, NY plant. The location was a favorite site for photographing their trucks - maybe a school. The truck carried a 750-gallon-per-minute two-stage pump with likely a 500-gallon water tank - your basic, no-frills pumper, except for the 2-speed rear end, and maybe the 5-speed transmission.
