Here's my question. I would like to ID my Grandfathers old truck since nobody left in our family is around. I've been told it could be a 1936 or 1937 Chevy or GMC. I don't care if it's a Chevy of GMC as both are GM products. All I have is this one photo of him & the truck, one being a little closer and the other is a hand drawing of the chrome strips under & above the door handle. The hand made drawing comes from me googling these trucks years from 1936-38, 1938 being what I have seen the lower chrome strip is wider then the top one.

Is there anybody out there that can ID his truck by the only photo I have? thanks in advance.

Unfortunately there's not enough picture to nail it down...your stuck with mid year 1936 thru 1938 Chevrolet or GMC.

The belt moldings are rolled into the body panels and then pin striped, they are not chrome.

Is there enough to ID what years span it would be?

Make that mid-year 1936 to 1938. The doors interchange between them, windshields were slightly different on the '36, and of course the grills and hoods were different. Cabs had a slight difference, but as long as you have the right windshield, you could interchange them. GMC I don't know about

In my "Hand Drawn" picture (1st post, 3rd pic) for the 38 Belt moldings drawing is it true for "that year" truck one thin and one slightly larger or is all three truck years 36,37,38 have the same size two belt line moldings.?

Thanks for all the input for what fits what but all I wish is to Identify that trucks year, Chevy or GMC no big deal as both are made by GM. It would be great if I had it but I don't. No paper work or VIN numbers to trace it down just the picture with his Company Logo on the door.

Your hand drawn picture in the first post is not correct. All 3 years have the same belt line with the top one thin and bottom a bit thicker. Look through the Gallery and although it is often difficult to tell from the pictures, I think you would see they are the same. My 37 and a late 36 parts cab both had the thin and thick belt lines. From your picture I don't think we are going to be able to tell what year that truck is.

Thanks guys, yes it was difficult to tell the belt lines but at least two of you confirm that one is thin and the other is slightly wider.
Thanks all.

The other obvious clue is the pointed door handle. Great photo of your Grandfather, picture tells a thousand words.

If I remember correctly the truck door handles are the same from 1935-38.

Unfortunately this mystery can't be solved with just this one picture...

Ribbed running boards make it a '37 or '38. '36 had a raised diamond pattern on the running boards.

The running board pattern then may be the only answer IF we could focus in on that running board. There is a pattern on the image that appears to be because of the digitizing of the photo, if the original photo could be enlarged you could narrow down the year. Best of luck

Didn't know about the pointed door handles. Yeah my Grand Pa was quite a man, he also was a Master Mason aka Free Mason home lodge was in Carson,CA. Grand Pa made sure we all grew up doing the right thing or doing it as well as we could for our ages. Every thing we did was done 100% correctly nobody got away with well it looks good Grand Pa the looks good Grand Pa wasn't good enough for him. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Mike

Unfortunately that picture doesn't exist anymore, I made some pictures/copies before my mother died. I made copies of the pictures I wanted and that one was First on my list. All the pictures/photos disappeared thanks too my little brother.

I see ribs on the running board when I zoom in. 98% sure it is not a raised diamond pattern.

Yes I agree you get things done with greater Numbers. Knowing its ether a 37/38 is ok with me, not knowing its ether a Chevy or GMC not a real big deal as its still a GM product.

And I say it again THANKS so much for what little to little more I have learned for this FORUM and its participants, kudos to you all.
