On the 283 there was a place for a ball stud to screw into the engine. The clutch linkage mounts off of it. On the 400 engine there is no such fitting. Does someone make a bracket that would bolt to the bellhousing to overcome this problem ? I know I am not the first guy to face this problem ?

I've done that modification to my '64. I used the ball stud that threads into the block and mounted it to some heavy flat stock. I used a couple of bolt holes in the side of the block to attach the flat stock and then lined up the Z bar to locate where the ball stud goes. Drill a hole and put a nut on the back of the ball and you're done. Hope I didn't confuse you. I did this quite a few years ago, so the details are a little fuzzy,

I was just hoping that some company would have made a bracket by now so i don't have to fabricate one. Did you use quarter inch stock ? Should be interesting to see how much better the 400 moves the truck over the 350 I had in it.

There is a place on the block that just needed to be drilled and tapped for the stud. Did that over the weekend so I have no more excuses. Time to drop the new motor in.
