He used the push-button kind, had the push-button side fastened to the inside of the bed and the "tang"(9or whatever you call it) was welded to the tailgate. Cheap and dirty. He put them on the INSIDE of the bed/tailgate and they looked really nice. If you can look around at a marina store you may see what I'm talking about. It is necessary to trim the inside edge of the tailgate to make room for the limiter cable, if you would even want one. The link folds into the tailgate end when you close the tailgate so it is hidden until you open the tailgate. It works a lot like a fleetside tailgate link system and is designed to work with the stock stepside tailgate. Click "parts and prices" and look at part #102835.
