What is your opinion on lowering your old chevy truck? Do you like the low rider look? My 64 is lowered. I put the 3" drop coil springs in front and 4" drop coil in rear. I love it the way it is now. Do you guys think the stock look should stay the stock look or is it all good both stock and lowered? Just like to here others thoughts on this topic. Maybe its cause I am a californian :p

I like both stock height and lowered. My 48 is lowered about 6" in the front and 4" in the rear. It's just a matter of personal preference and what you use the truck for. I'm fortunate enough to have a newer truck I use for hauling and work, so the 48 is more of toy.

it's all preference - it's yer truck after all, and if yer not haulin much it doesn't hurt, but the airbag bit that lays the truck on the ground looks just plain stupid - I kinda like form to jive with function and it's a TRUCK!!!

the only downside is that the lower a arms take a beating.they are way too low.

I'm kinda like everybody here, "whatever floats your boat" but a truck sure looks good about 4 to 6" lower and tires that fill the fenders! remember the skateboard look? :o bad memories

I grew up in El Paso, next to the US/Mexico border. I've seen my share of lowriders, both good and bad. There are people in EP that will make a lowrider out of ANYTHING, I swear. Lowrider mini-vans always make me chuckle.

That said. for strictly street use, I like the look of a lowered truck. With our '54 project, we plan on lowering it with IFS and possibly drop spindles to give it a cool street stance. It's not going tobe ground-scrapingly low, though. I agree with red58 that trucks with the sheetmetal sitting in the grass look pretty silly.
Most trucks require significant modification to pull that look off, and usually have the rear suspension taking up a huge chunk of space in the bed, as well.

mine is lowered about 7 inches and still useful as a truck. i don't plan to take it off road. to add another opinion, the extremely lowered and extremely raised look terrible to me. 2cents worth. ron

It's your truck, but, I like stock height. Thats just my opinion. When I see a for sale ad that mentions lowered or lifted, I immediately lower the amount that I would pay. My first impression is a non-functional (ruined truck). The only exception regarding height, that would not affect my opinion would be tire size, as that is easily corrected.
I say do what you want, because it has to be the way you like it, and it is your truck. But for re-sale, I would recommend that you do it in a way, so that it is reversable, as a lot of prospective buyers, may share my opinion. Unless of course, it is a street rod, which in that case, would already be a non-functional truck.

I just prefer trucks that can be used as trucks.

oh lucas my 64 short fleet can easily be converted back to stock height..All i did was buy coil springs and shocks. I bought the 3" coil for front and 4" in rear but there is no way that i would change it back. I am loving the way it looks. Was gonna go with another inch more drop in the rear but i would have to c-notch it which i do not know how to cut and weld the frame. Thanks for all your opinions and all.

BAMBINO22 They make bolt on c notch kits. I welded mine but assume the bolt on ones work ok.
there really isnt much load on the frame back of the notch.

...uh-actually,I'm thinking of LIFTING the front of my '62 one ton,just enough to make it level again,probably about 3 inches.

Everyone seems to be lowering these days, and I like to be different, so I raised mine. It's not finished yet, but here\'s a pic.


The reason we ask for a LINK to a picture (rather than posting the image itself):

1) it affects our bandwidth (which is costly)
2) it makes the page download slower (which really affects people on dial-up, and we've got a lot of them)
3) some European users have to "pay by the byte" (and we don't want to do that to them ... especially after they've seen the image once already!)

And a side benefit -- you can post a link to as big a picture as you like and it won't affect the rest of the posts in that thread!

Bambino 22, forgot to mention I airbaagged mine and I feel I have the best of two worlds. can lay the frame for shows then lift it up to almost stock height for the drive home. Rides and handles better than when It was stock

my 64 short step side has drop spindles and one inch drop springs on front,five inch drop springs on back.it doesn't bottom out but i drag the a arms in some driveways.the springs came from ec.

This spring (on my '66) I'm gonna go with a 4" drop in the rear (springs) & 2 1/2 in the front (spindles from ECE). Yo don't see many dropped trucks in the Northeast, compared to the West. I was in New Mexico this summer for a vacation & I saw a lot of old dropped trucks (especially in Espanola). I was lovin' it!

Ya know, I love them lowered...to a point. I dont like slammed trucks. I love it when a truck sits a little higher in the rear-makes em look mean I think! I love seein em a few inches off the ground in front and a pair of steamrollers in the back! ooooohhhh!!!!

But ive heard airbags give an awesome ride.

Its all opinions though, and you know what they say... I do like the look on 50-3600-guys truck!

To each their own I say. Personally I don't think you can call it a truck if you can't drive it across a muddy field without gettin' stuck. :p

I'd say do what you like, it's your truck. I like lowered and also raised, I've seen both done but my '55 GMC is stock height and will stay that way.

Lowered, Slammed, Raked, Jacked up a little, lifted to the sky....

Personally, I have had 4 4x4 trucks mildly lifted. My current daily driver is mildly lifted (2004 chevy 2500HD w/ 33") I would never own a lowrider for my daily driver, they dont comply with how I use my "real trucks"

But my 1938 will eventually ride on an IFS with AirBags so I can have it all, slammed in the weeds when parked, and raked or raised evenly when cruisin'
