OK guys I'm sitting here looking at the truck bed sides, and front etc. well it all looks pretty simple, and I' wondering why I guy couldn't fabricate his own bed pretty easily?

I've thought about it for quite awhile. I think the only hard part would be the rolled part on the top edges. I know alot of guys weld a piece of conduit to the top of the panel for this edge, but I've never seen the final results, and I can't picture it coming out all that well in my mind. I'll probably buy mine. Tucker

It can be done if you have the equipment etc but I would recommend Mack Products, a division of Mack Hils Inc out of Moberly Missouri. They do and excellent job and if you deal straight with them and cut out the catalog folks the price isn't so terrible for the good stuff you get. I purchase my 37 pickup as a complete assembly and in the long run saved $$$$ considering what I had to start with and what it would have cost to fix it! as far as the edge, well in my scenario I don't even care if its round so I'd have more then one option on how I could finish that edge. kind of a few idea's I'm throwin around in my head.

Mack Products get my vote to! I also bought a '37 bed from them, only I went and picked it up at the factory. They are about 100 miles from here. Saved a bunch on shipping. For about $1200 You get every nut, bolt, washer, side, stripe and some of the best looking oak flooring. For $200 or so more they will put it together for you. When you start pricing parts out, I don't think you can beat a kit!

If you have never worked with 14 gauge steel before, you might want to practice on some before trying to make a bed side. You don't just go cutting this stuff very easy. If you use a torch, it won't be flat when you get done. You really need a plasma cutter. You need the top edges rolled or something so the sides just don't flop around.

my bed sides aren't in that bad of shape, but I was just thinkin that it might be easier to actually build new sides, and sell the old one. I've looked at the pro's pick's beds too, and for the price I think these are the best deal out there. they aren't stock, but then I again for my applicaiton I don't car if its stock or not.

I do need the front, and the tailgate, but I want a full height tail gail with hidden hinges. there are a lot of parts that I'm trying to do on the economy side so I'll probably end up using what I've got.

I have made a bed for a 37 chevy had a metal shop bend the metal in a 8ft break bend and for the top on the sides for the roll i took a piece of tubing........plasma cut it the intire length slid it onto the bed side and mig welded it on. It was alot easier than trying to keep it straight while welding it by being plasma cut and slid on to the top. You would nee to see if you can get metal bent and plasma cut and it will make it alot easier to build
