I just received a pair of '39 Chev car taillights for my panel. Prior to ordering I searched and found good discussions on the topic of panel taillights. I was able to find the mounting template (thanks, Tim). At one point I thought I saw a template for the inner body support pad for the lights but have not been able to find it again. Is there one, or was I seeing things? Any clarification gratefully appreciated. Thanks

I don't believe there was an inner support pad.

I didn't have an inner support on mine either. Rusty, be sure the mounting holes of your lights are the same as the template. They can be different. Some are above each other and some are side by side.

The template is out about an 1/8 inch for one of the mounting stud holes, otherwise everything lines up well.

I found this on Jim Carter's site and it is for a light installed over the center of the rear doors for increased visibility at night. (See figure 79 and step 4) I did, however, find a thread from 2016 titled "Turn Signals for AD Carryall 1947- 1953." In it, jorb states towards the end of his post that "There is also a reinforcement plate that goes on the inside." I knew I saw something about an inner plate (rather than a pad) somewhere.

There was a reinforcement plate and a pad on each side.

Heed the grounding instructions - use a conductive anti-oxidant copper-impregnated (non-silicone-containing) grease on the clean bare holes in the body side panels.

If you have lamps that have mounting posts that are off the holes in the template, you might have older auto lamps that look similar to the 47-55st panel-body lamps? My understanding is that there were also other similar auto lamps with mounting posts orientated 90 degrees differently.

Dangit. Now I gotta go back in there and make reinforcing plates.

Thanks, Tim. I had trouble finding the first link again. So I wasn't seeing things! The lights I have are from Speedway and are for a 1939 Chev car. I got the tear drop shaped rubber gaskets (which line up perfectly with the mounting surface, holes, and studs of the lights) from The Filling Station.

Yes there is a inner reinforcement plate for the bullet lights.
I think the reinforcement plate in the Jim Carter LINK showing the upper roof light is the same reinforcement plate that is used on the side bullets.

There are some optional ways to wire the bullet lights and the rear barn door light.
