Was out at Mecum auction today in Houston. Lot's of AD's for sale, all very nice. Best of the lot was a '50 3600 that sold for $36K. The most original restoration that I've seen. Retained 6V system, all original wiring. Interesting that it had a 3 speed on the column, but the HD 8 lug RE and spindles. Never seen that. I talked with the fella selling it, said his Dad did it and put $85K in it....not sure about that. I'm sure Martin who is lurking in the wings will find some obscure rule that I've violated and stick this in the spoon where 6 people will see it. Whatever.....very nice truck though.

Allen, if you thought I would move it why did you post it here to begin with? We can discuss it here as long as the guys don’t get too far off track.🛠 BTW, I saw that one sell and it was nice.

Yah, what Martin said. Lighten up Francis. He is doing an outstanding job at moderating this forum. Everybody seems to dump EVERYTHING in here and he doesn't yell at us for doing it.

LIghten up, indeed, Allen

"I'm sure Martin who is lurking in the wings will find some obscure rule that I've violated and stick this in the spoon where 6 people will see it."

If the post is a person-to-person communication/transaction, it belongs in a PM or email. Not obscure at all.

If it is not pre-1973 Chevy truck related, it belongs in in the "spoon". Them's the simple "rules".

Your first post in this thread is a legit topic.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what a man pays or gives depends on his need, or want. I learned a long time ago "no two contracts are alike" in what one gives or takes.

Although I did not see the truck, or auction, the original poster, Allen, makes a good topic, perhaps for somewhere else, but he brings up a good point when mentioning the money aspect of it. Its my personal opinion we need to talk money a lot more than we do. I understand some folks may not want to say what they sold, or paid, for something thinking "we" may think they paid to much, or to little...... but if we shared info, we could get a much better idea of what is going on in the market and use it to our advantage regardless if we are selling or buying. With deep, or shallow, pockets. I've mentioned this before but not much was ever said.

Just this afternoon my nephew called me while he was looking at a 48 1/2 ton pickup. He walked around the truck describing it and ask me what I thought it was worth. Although a 1948 in #6 condition, in Old Cars Price Guide, is around 1500, I told him 500 would be a high price for what he described and he promptly told me the lady wanted 3000 and that she had seen the auctions and knew the truck was worth it. I told him to RUN.[/u]

Everyone wants gold for junk.
“But this is a really rare 1950 pickup!” I’ve heard said. 1/2 million trucks? Rare? Indeed. Who would have thought?

Up north here, it is very hard to find decent trucks. Category 6? Maybe there should be a 7th...Canadian winter salt specials.

I’m glad that we are seeing more bigger trucks avoiding part out or butcher jobs to make 1/2 tons. If I could I’d save them all....at least that’s what my wife tells me. 😃

I don't want a brand new '50 Chevy truck. I don't want a brand new '48 either.....which fits the bill for my truck.

Here is a link to the truck. Have a look. Cost the buyer all in $43K with commissions, etc to Mecum.

High $ 3600

Nice truck. On the tail end on my 3100 project, so I know the work and money that goes into the project to get it looking that good and to that level of restoration. A little bit of misinformation though, as far as the 3sp on the column in a 3/4 ton truck being rare and all, plus the passenger side antenna mirror. I don't doubt a fellow can spend 85Gs on aresto, if he had a checkbook and did nothing for himself. I don't fault anyone who personally pays someone for their professional services, many are disabled and many cant and feel it worthwhile to spend that kind of money to renew a feeling that they had in grandpas old truck, plus it is good for business, not so good for the kids inheritance. My thinking only.

1950 Chevrolet 3600 came standard with the column 3. Option 318 C, D got you the 4-speed for an additional $51.90. Wrong antenna, DS mirror, signal lights, but a nice truck for sure.

USA 3/4 ton 3604 pickups = about 54,000 trucks (about 13% of total production that year). Not really rare, but not 1/2 million.

It is a nice truck, but to take a truck to that level of a restoration you'd think they would get the fire wall color right...it should be body color, not Black!

Dig that Blue Flame blue engine color too.
I wouldn't have brought it up in front of the guy who built it, but that guy sold his truck, so the gloves came off.

52Carl - I had to go back and check my reading material and yep, it was "blue gray" for 1950, not blue like on the car engines which is what this truck has . If it was supposed to be period correct restoration there are probably many incorrect items such as the coil being off 180, wrong plug wires and who knows what else. Not sure what the correct definition of restoration is but I agree with Mike, for that price it should'a been near "perfect" to original. Mine isn't but if I had $85K to put towards it I'm thinking it would be, along with two or three more sitting beside it.

It's a nice truck for sure. Original, not at all still pretty well finished out.

Question on the radio antenna, How original is that. I confess to liking that mounting solution. Mine is currently on the flatbed's headache rack and I'm not likely to move it, if I did the red trucks mount looks pretty good and would be the route I'd take.

That is not the GM truck radio antenna location 47-55.

It was on the driver's side front cowl, a little below (and to the outside of) the windshield/wiper "stud".

An installation diagram has been posted in the past - I'll look for it.

Thanks Tim, your comments do verify what I though was correct. Still like the passenger side location though.

I agree John. I am just a little paranoid when "picking apart" someone else's "baby". I almost got into a fist fight with an 80 year old man for asking questions about his high dollar "restoration" of his '54, which I explained to him that I was not familiar with. He had reproduction front fenders with the funky extra seams near the headlight holes and his body and paint guy did not fill those seams before applying the $10 K+ paint job. I asked him about it and he flew off the handle. BTW, he also had the Blue Flame colored engine too, which I did not bring up.
