So, if I want to put ifs on my AD 3100, whats the best route? Are all mustang 2 units the same? some are pretty low cost on ebay. Is s10 any heavier than mustang 2?
People talk about using a c10 suspension from early to mid 80's and narrowing the crossmember. Don't the wheels stick out too far?
So many options I don't want to get half done and go ,, YUCK! don't care for that. Help please

As you noted, there are several on the market. Total Cost Involved (TCI) and Fatman Fabrications make good kits. If you have never done this before please take the time to research the different manufacturers and read as many blogs and watch UTUBE videos until you are no longer "confused". It is not a weekend project. The S-10 deal usually involves a total frame swap and a special kit for mounting the AD body. The C-10 swap when done properly (narrowing the crossmember) will look just fine but is a lot more work. Good luck with your project.

BTW the first thread in this forum will have some valuable information for you. shake

After some research you may change your mind on the IFS idea.
lots and lots of these trucks don't have IFS, and lots and lots of people enjoy driving them.

I have to ask, why do you think you need or want IFS? What will you gain? I don't want to sound mean or anything, just asking because as Grigg pointed out above, lots of truck running around still have the OEM suspension and ride just fine.

We have in shop right now a 49 Studebaker with a Nova clip, a 52 AD with a Nova clip, a 53 Ford with a Volare clip, and a 57 TF with a CE MII clip; all will ride and drive nice with discs and power brakes. With that said my wife's 64 Ford short wide fishing truck with a straight axle also drives straight and true and rides a bit more harsh but it IS a truck. The front axle was completely gone through and along with the shackles and king pins the spring eye bushings, front and rear, were replaced. It has the Toyota p/s box and caster has been increased 4 degrees which lets you drive with no hands on the wheel if necessary---it won't wander. Power drum brakes, a/c, and an automatic lets her seek out fishing holes near and far. Both ways can work just fine.

....I have a stang II under my 37 and its OK but wish I had the bigger GM rotors.....no problems in 20 years

....I have a 52 Panel with the original straight axle that drives just fine and I have driven it on several Looong trips.
I will admit I put power steering in the panel along with a V8 but as far as changing the axle?, nope, its just fine.
Just food for thoughts.

...along another line I am not sure who, maybe "tntrknut" (?) that used a 1978 Chevy front clip which, after taking the old axle out, rolled the donor with the independent suspension on the outside of his original chassis. IF, IF I remember correctly he added a 1/2" plate between the it and his chassis. The Chevy may be a 1/2 inch wider on each side but he tells me it drives and runs great and NO ONE has ever noticed or said anything.

**** does any of you remember this??? If I was doing one doggone it, I think it would be an easy, and less expensive, and quicker, to get where Charles wants to go.

Refresh my/our memory someone......Floyd, are you reading this??

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
