Hello
This is Corey from BC canada. I'm new here but not new to old trucks :D
I have a 46 2 ton gmc flatdeck dump and just bought a 54 gmc Dump truck
The 54 had a 248 (seized and rusted) and a spare 270 (ran 4 years ago but smokes)
Both engines are too far gone to be economically worth rebuilding plus I have a 72 350 small block already rebuilt for propane.
I know its pretty straight forward to put the 350 into the 54and thru reading here know there are kit crossmembers and mounts to fasten it in however I am unsure what bellhousing would work best. Do I need a new flywheel or will existing one work. New clutch? exhaust manifolds to make fitting easier?
Any suggestions to make this swap go smoothly or any tutorials online for guidance would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks

Skip, welcome to the Stovebolt. Glad to have you and looking forward to your wisdom in the Big Bolt truck forum...as well as others. There are quite a few bolters in B.C. but not sure where your located. Watch for them and even make a post in the B.C. Bolters forum to meet the guys there..... I met them a few years ago and they are a great bunch of guys.

And......I will leave this post here so others can welcome you but this is not the place for technical questions which should be asked in the garage forums. With what your doing you may be better to ask the question in the HI PO Forum where most guys talk about modifications.....if the moderator there feels it may be better answered in the engine forum he will move it there. All this is to help you get answers to enjoy your build......

Good luck, keep us posted and a picture when you can. We love the pics......by the way, check out the pictures in the gallery.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

welcome to the site! Ditto on Alvin's suggestions for posting questions in the proper garage forums. Sounds like a couple of fun trucks! I am not sure about putting a SBC in the older ones as mine are all Task Force trucks so, a bit different measurements!
