Painted both doors this morning on the 46. Should be dry to touch in another hour. Will hang them next week.

Fixed loose knob on Vint Air controls, which involved pulling gage panel out, making a tiny wrench to tighten rheostat and put it all back. Then reinstalled grille, now kinda liking the look minus the hood, for now on the old '46.

Finished painting the frame after weeks of grinding and scraping, Turned out great, now on the mounting the axles and then rebuilding the motor.

Unloaded the new to me '62 C-10 shortbed stepside from the trailer this morning. Rolled it up onto my 4 post lift. Will start on the carb O/H tomorrow. Engine runs and sounds good but accelerator pump is not up to snuff. Gas in the tank smells stale so that will get drained and new "REAL" gas put back in. Truck is amazingly rust free.

For my birthday, a few of the ODSS gang helped me pull the 261 back out of the '49 3804. Friday, I left the crankshaft with the machinist who is going to turn it to get rid of the scoring on the main and rod journals (the cause of the low oil pressure that led us to pull the engine. While the engine is out, I am fighting the urge to rip the whole front clip off and change out the rad stand for an uncut one. But if the front clip is off and apart, then it would be easy just to go a few steps further and .... and we all know where THAT ends -- frame rails sitting on two saw horses, bunch of stuff in the rafters in baggies and me standing there wondering, "How in the heck did THAT happen??"

Mounted the hood latch and it functions like it should. Mounted the spare tire carrier on the side of the bed. Now I have to dig through my parts stash for a stock wheel/tire to mount on it.

Found a seat thats as close to a prefect fit as I could possibly expect. Gives me more leg and belly room. 1992 C1500 60/40 w/arm rest.

Pulled the fuel filter and dumped a couple tablespoons of rust out. Flushed the line with fuel and put a new filter on. Fired right up and ran smooth. Very little rust on startup. I'm happy.

Now on to power washing the engine so I can read the block casting numbers to verify it is original to the truck.

Power washed the engine today. Ran the casting #s through the Inliners casting codes list. The engine appears to be the engine the truck was born with. Bonus it has the 848 head.🛠

For future readers of this post:

The "848" head is a high compression head that was used on the majority of the high-pressure (1954-62) 235 engines (the 848 head came on all 1956-1962 235 engines). It can also be used on 1954/55 235 engines.

Got my two vacuum wiper motors working for my 42 truck.

put my wood bed together on the truck and put the front panel and side panels on too.

Did some screw hole filling on the '62 C10. At some point in it's life it had West Coast Mirrors and the holes were not filled when the mirrors were removed. Tried a product called Liquid Metal that comes in a tube. Turned out to be very easy to use and filled the holes without much effort. Dried like steel in about 3 hours. Waiting on my new air DA Sander to arrive today to finish of the smoothing process. Then a slight smear of body filler and a bit of finish sanding and some primer.

Finished the body work on the doors. Not doing a repaint with this one so I spot primered the repairs. Repaired the extra holes the P/O had drilled in the floorboard. Ms Kathy painted a waving American Flag on the tailgate, so, I clearcoated it. About half finished on door logos. Could get a lot more done if I had an indoor shop to shade me from the 100* days.

Wife has been hard at work the last 2 days doing door logos. We had a Service Station business in 1978-1980 and she is putting the logo I designed back then on the doors of the '62 C10. She is a professional artist but not a sign painter so it will have a bit of a rustic look to it. The heat is making it take quite a bit longer to do than she thought. No shade to work in. Sorry, as you long time readers know, I don't do photos. I we ever get to the point of direct posting I may try to give it a shot.

Hey, just get one of the grandkids are the kids in the neighborhood crowd. I'll bet they all can show you how to do pictures in a heart beat. Don't be shy, we want to see the logo!

FWIW, my son is a computer engineer and even he can't get through to me. You wouldn't believe how long it took to get me comfortable navigating around the web. With 3 kids and a new one on the way, he just doesn't have the time to come help out his old man. That's just how it is. I may try again maybe with google images sometime in the future.

Ms Kathy finished up the door logos about 9pm last night. That plus the waving American Flag she painted on the tailgate make the '66 look really good for a faded out ole shop truck.

Today - I put together some photos of the progress on my truck. It's a 1947 - 3800, dually. Here they are

The truck was bought to part out and use the pieces on my original 1947 project. It turns out this truck was in far better condition than my grandfathers, so this one gets the first "rubber on the road". I have had lots of support from my friends at the Old Dominion and locally as well. I would not have been able to turn a bolt without the support and inspiration gained on these pages.

The last photos shows her last weekend. I am finishing off the gauges and will start the wiring next week. I will add more as we progress. The weather in Philadelphia is not cooperating this weekend, hot, humid and stormy.

The truck is nicknamed "Deadwrench". I kept the original axle and installed the 4:10's The engine is a freshly rebuilt 261. Since I plan to DRIVE this truck I chose a 12v. alternator system, 19.5" rims and new radials. The front end is completely rebuilt. 55 is my goal - all day long.

Got the carpet installed Saturday. Nice medium blue that will match the exterior faded blue and the slightly darker blue seat covers. Seat belts cleaned and reinstalled. Still have to fit the aftermarket 3 speed floor shift boot and trim. That will finish the floor.

Got a pretty lower humidy morning and painted the 46 hood swift red. Nice day here finally, rest of week gets worse.

Spent the last two early mornings running new wires to the rear of the '62 C-10. All new from the switches back to the new tail light assemblies. New wire loom and all joints soldered and heat shrinked. New carpet is in and fitted to the aftermarket floor shift. Progress!🛠

I've had a very small, mystery leak in my cooling system for a long time. Today, I lost it's mystery and became a large leak. The rear, passenger side freeze plug rotted out in the 327. Looks like I'm working on that tomorrow.

It sits behind the starter, so that will be the first thing to come off.

I'm hoping to be able to replace just the one freeze plug. Since I plan to do a full rebuild soon, I will wait and replace the rest at that time.

Freeze plug replaced. At least this one was in an easy to replace location.

Had to pull the starter and clutch slave cylinder, but at least I didn't need to pull the engine. :-)

1962 C-10 Shortbed Stepside. New sill plates in, shifter boot screwed down. Inside of doors repainted and new armrests installed. Painted inside cab behind seat and around window. Painted dashboard and kick panels. This is all rattle can stuff. All I was after was a bit of freshening up on the inside. Waiting for it to bake in the summer sun and then pull the tape and paper off. Then clean up overspray.🛠

Reminds me of the time an old buddy came by wanting to use my shop (& tools) to replace a freeze plug on his Dakota 4 banger. He bought one of those rubber stopper expandable types. My 1st thought was hey, this may be a good thing. So he got it in easily, followed the directions on tightening it, refilled the radiator and started it up to test. Well, as soon as the system pressurized we heard this loud "POP" and a couple bangs and that engine starting peeing anti freeze all over my shop. Needless to say it blew that plug out and it banged around in the engine compartment before it fell to the ground. Lucky for him he didn't road test it...
He went back and got the correct solid plug and a couple gallons of anti freeze and did it right.
And my shop floor cleaned up pretty good, by him LOL.....

That's a great story. If it wasn't a pressurized system, it might have worked.

I got started about 7:00am and was done by 12:00pm, including the run to the parts store to get a new starter solenoid. I cracked the cap on mine when I tightened the battery cable. :-(
I wanted to beat the heat. It was over 100* here yesterday.

After I was done, went on a drive and found a bunch of "free" firewood. Neighbors had cut down a couple of trees and left them on the curb with a sign on the rounds. Filled the bed and hauled it home. 55 years old, and still a work truck. :-)

Recovered the seat and reinstalled it. The interior is now 95% done. The seat cover was manufactured by Acme Auto and ordered through Rockauto.com. Fit was a mirror image of the original and install was a quick 30 minutes on each half. Hog rings and pliers come in the box. Quality is at or better than OEM. Now to move back to wiring.

I've used Rock Auto for many parts and have no complaints.

I got my re-rebuilt 55.2 235 engine re-reinstalled Sunday night.

Worked on the PO's cobbled up alternator bracket. The alternator was offset about 1/2 inch from the water pump and crank pulleys. Some creative shimming on the bracket to block surface and a longer top bolt got everything back in line. One step closer to that first drive on the '62 C-10. 🛠

I don't know if it is my imagination but the ride quality on my 54 as deteriorated. There was a modification to the rear spring. I asked for the bottom over load to be turned over to soften the ride but they cut the back portion off. I have some add on overloads and I added the driver's side and now I have to go get longer bolts to install the other side. They look like they have sagged at the end. Of course, Amazon has a complete bottom leaf. But other than the longer bolts I had the rest. I hope this helps. Side note I started noticing how much quieter the truck is now that the state and city are paving the worst roads. Especially the highway from my house to town.

I added an overload spring that already had and it seems to help with the problem. Do you know how hard it is to find a whoopee doo when you want to? I drove around for a while and found a road that I could drive at a speed that I wanted with some washboard and dips and the ride seems to have improved.

Finally located a replacement cylinder head for my '53 235 CI. Now reassembling with the rest of the engine already reinstalled in the '46 1/2T.

Finished up work on the inside of the bed on the '62 C-10. It has the original bed wood so it needed sealing. Then painted the metal bed floor strips. That took a couple of hours worth of tape work and 10 minutes of rattle can paint. Got too hot but the job is done. One more project down and closer to the first drive.🛠

When the time comes to crank and driver her try to video the grand show.
