Just a quick question about where the small oil can spring loaded braket is suppose to mounted. When I removed it, it was on chassie rail on L/H side in engine bay but it looks like wrong place.
My chev is a 42 1 1/2 ton truck R/H drive built for Australia

I had a '40 Chevy 1 1/2 ton cab with a canister oil filter mounted on the firewall on the driver's side. It also has EAGLE stamped on its side

I have a salesman book to go with my '42 American Chevy pick up and there is no such oil can listed. That doesn't mean that it is not a correct factory item with a right hand drive export truck. I suspect, however, that your oil can is aftermarket or from some other vehicle.
I have seen oil cans on the firewall of cars from the late teens and early 1920s when there is no automatic lubrication of the rocker arms. The driver is required to stop and oil the rockers every 100 miles or so. Thus, a convenient oil can is mounted nearby.

They were big with having the oil can and bracket mounted on the firewall.
Usually in the lower corner opposite the steering.(Pass. side)
Could that truck possibly be Ex military?
A lot of Dodge WC's had them.

the model numbers are W 4403, 4408, 4409 my truck is a W 4409 with stake sides
and the contract numbers are W-398-QM-12981
W-398-QM-13006
