Speedo cable was erratic screeching and broke the needle off speedo gauge
Replaced speedo cable with a new one. Still getting that erratic screeching.
Is it from the long unused instrument gauge or from the transmission where

It sounds like a bad bearing in the speedo causing the cable to wind up like a spring and then send the speedo up to high speed in a hurry! | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,208 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,208 | Try a couple of small drops of oil on the back of the speedometer. You will need to remove the cable. The internal shaft of the speedometer may be dry and rubbing on the outer threaded portion. Sewing machine oil or 3 in 1 oil will do just fine. I pulled it out and at the base where the cable screws on there's a small brass plug. Pulled the plug out and lubed it with atf. Plugged the hole with a lead fishing weight. No more noise! Been quiet for 3 years now.
