New Process 5-speed pattern (optional in 1957) 1-2-4-R ..3-5 GM SM-420 4-speed pattern (standard issue) ...1-3 R-2-4 Dots/periods are just page space holders to keep the numbers liner up correctly... SM-420 will only have one PTO location (drivers side), the NP will have one on each side. I drove one for 5 years. You may have a 5 speed and just haven't found 1st gear. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | And they are a great trans, you get a close ratio 4 speed with a 'granny' for starting out. I put one in an early Bronco behind a Buick 3.8 V6. Normally start out in second. 4 shift rails, so that is where each gear resides-on the end of each shift rail.

Most of my driving I don't use the 2 speed cause I'm not going on anything fast enough | | | | | Joined: Nov 2018 Posts: 1 Moderated | | Moderated Joined: Nov 2018 Posts: 1 | Hi.
