Hope to see some of you out and about when I get mine roadworthy. I need some contacts for local parts sources...if there are any. I posted in the welcome center as well. I can use any advice I can get as far as bodywork and when to replace and when to repair. Thanks for any thoughts.

Welcome,

My advice on sheet metal after having earned a living for a while at a restoration shop repairing and replacing it... If you're doing or hiring first class work done where the final product (bare metal) is as good or better than original it pretty much never pays to repair/replace significant rust. For what you spend in labor/time you can usually buy an exceptionally clean truck, cab, panel or what have you for less money, these trucks are not so rare.
If the quality of work is lower, for example a patch panel lapped or just tac welded in and bondo over, it may cost less than sound used sheet metal. Though you'd have a lower quality result that may be just as satisfactory depending on your expectations and desires.

Bruce Bugay in Glen Allen has been a great source for NOS parts and some used. I have not talked to him in a few years so not sure if he is still in the business/hobby. https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/users/2480.html

I'll second Grigg's endorsement of Bruce. When I was rebuilding my trans and overdrive, Bruce was the only local person who had the hard-to-find parts I needed. And, he's real close. Good guy too.

I last did business with him a year ago. He's still around. His phone number is: 804-752-6036

Best,

-Jim

Boy, Bruce's name brings back a lot of memories. I first bought parts from him back in mid 90's for my 37. A little pricey most of the time but your getting good quality stuff from a great guy.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Excellent quality parts from Bruce Bugay (often NOS or NORS).
