That looks to be the culprit. However, it made me wonder, with this lower intake filter, is an upper inline filter doing much? I mean, it would have to be a very very fine particle to pass thru and make it up to my simple old one barrel carb.
Really, I think that carb will never be affected by anything the intake filter passes on. I don't like add on filters, they never look original and on this motor, placement - with original fuel line configuration- isn't that simple. dunno what the setup was on an original one tho'.

This means that some of this material is actually getting past the screen heading toward the carburetor. This material may currently be coating the inside of the tank and continue to be an issue in the future. An inline filter will give you added security, and a good way of discovering whether what I just suggested is actually occurring. Carl

Even though a carb rebuild kit isn't expensive, my time certainly is. And you can't put a price on loss of performance either. Only possible reason for not using one would be if you had a brand-new fuel tank and new fuel lines, and even then I would still have an in-line filter just to be on the safe side.
Just my two cents worth.

I don't have a filter inside my 52panel tank but I have one coming out of it, and one between the fuel pump and carb.
....my 37 stopped on me while on I-85 one hot summer evening. Pulled the filter and was on my way in 20 minutes. Put them where you can get to them easy. If you hide them in the frame, then you get the look you want. DADS50 has a cool filter that threads onto the carb as sort of original. WIX 33081 or equivalent.

If you have those to items, I do not see a reason to have another filter between the tank and the pump.
If you don't have the screenage at the pump, it's a very good idea to use an inline filter before the pump. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | | | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 1,611 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 1,611 | Thanks. It always seemed that the filters mounted right above the hot exhaust manifold was not the best idea. They do look nice though. I have a few, but do not have the will to cut my fuel feed line. | | |
