When I checked the truck out,the engine was "Stuck"! When I initially took the video of this truck,I figured someone may need a few parts, but I NEVER DREAMED that someone would haul it clear back to Georgia, for a complete restoration! WHAT A SAVE!! HAT'S OFF,To "cdandelivery",and his Class! https://picasaweb.google.com/108148341138770442418/Jan162016

My 261 had a 235 head, machined with the extra 261 steam holes. Take "Patrick's" Advice: Make sure you use a Zinc additive,(such as "ZDD"),along with an engine oil, engineered,(Zinc Added), for flat-tappet engines,(Valvoline VR 5W/50 Recommended). This is especially important during the break-in period. I Personally Recommend it every oil change. Some readers will disagree, but I changed the oil in my 261,every 1,000 miles, since it didn't have an oil filter. (S.C.O. Engine). The last oil change,I "listened" to another member, who had good luck, with an oil of his choice.I then switched to Regular Valvoline, and No Zinc additive. I spun a bearing 50 miles later. The engine had about 102,000 miles on it,though. Shoulda woulda coulda changed the bearings! Now the crank's TOAST!

Which ate the rust loose from the rings. The head on this one was a 850 which had a 11 cracks! I took a 848 head from a 55 235 truck and we made the steam holes by the instructions posted in the archive section. The engine was in fair shape but was bored 30 over, hardened valve seats. One of my fellow college instructors bought out a old parts house in LA he had old stock on everything but the gaskets.... the exhaust manifold was cracked as well but after scouring the county side a great replacement was found.I decided to do a 54 2nd series 235 for our next feat.Funny it was missing the valve cover so we found one and got it to realize it didn't have a oil filler hole in it! Must have been from a 40 era truck oh well experiance is a great teacher!
