Hello. My name is Alex. I own a 54 GMC pumper engine. I have been enjoyed reading this forum for several years, just decided to join. Look forward to picking some brains and getting some more info on this old truck.

Welcome Alex. If you have been browsing for a while, you likely know your way around. There is a section for pumper trucks, volunteer FD, it's part of the big bolts. There are lots of brains to pick, be sure to take advantage. Maybe you can show us a pic or two of your truck.

The valve cover looks like its been off and paint so I suspect it does run.
Are you close to Mechanicsville, Md? That's where the Stovebolt Homecoming is.... and Johns firetruck! Watch here for details. Usually in late April. Glad to have you aboard.

Thanks for all the welcomes! Oh, she runs... stoping is the hard part. lol. When I bought the truck it didn't run, but I tinkered with it at the farm where it was setting, got it fired up, and drove it home. It was a five mile trip down winding back roads with just the hand brake and a 1 gal tank handing under the hood. The 503ci straight 6 is thirsty, I think I stopped 3 times to refill the tank. Tru-stop hand brake worked great tho, so no incidents...

I have been slowly fixing the truck up for the last 5 years, still along way to go... Rsqwhite, I'm not sure if I am going to fully "restore" the truck or just get it mechanically sound and some fresh paint. Its been a farm truck for a while now and I'm not sure if I want to keep after a really shiny paint job.

Achipmunk, I am about 2hrs from Mechanicsville, MD, so relatively close depending on what you drive...

I posted a thread in the "Big Bolts" section about aftermarket intake manifolds for these large trucks with gas 6s. Check it out if you have anything to add on performance parts, dual carb setups, etc. for big gas motors.
