A friend passed away 8 years ago leaving his mother this 1951 GMC 100 truck. I'm thinking about buying it and letting it sit for about a year until I finish my 1970 Mustang project. Anyway I'm clueless about old trucks and there value, I've always worked out of them not restored them. Any help is appreciated!

I would be all over that, really nice original looking 5-window. Interestingly has a Chevrolet 235 in it so must be a bit of history to it. I know here in non-running condition a truck like that is 5-6k. If you can get a deal on that truck you have a keeper in my opinion.

Up here it's probably worth about that in running condition.

Interestingly enough in some years the Canadian-built GMC trucks had Chevrolet engines, so I wonder if it's a Canadian GMC? I don't know if the model number is a tip-off?

It does look like a good start.

Thanks for the replies! The mld# is 101-22-S-1521. I think I'll bite on this one, it's $2,500 as is where is.

If you don't want it I'll take it. Nice truck even with a Chevy engine. That can be easily changed. By the serial number I can tell you it is a US truck, made in St Louis and it came with a 228.

... And at $2500 it's a steal. Jump on it.

Nothing wrong with a 235 as power.

GMCBristol, I'm just up the road from you in Spartanburg so if you decide you do not want it let me know. Lets keep it in the family! I'll bet I could drive it while I work on my current project. Let us/me know. I can get to Ga. faster than Cletis smile

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Great looking truck for the money. It looks like an older restoration to me, (chromed, rusting bumper). Another Chevrolet pointer is the instrument cluster. I think those should have been white faced in a GMC.

ND GMCs never had white gauges. Some did have a cream color but I don't know what years.

This truck has GMC gauges. Notice 'FUEL' instead of 'GASOLINE', 60 lb oil pressure gauge, 50 amp ammeter and numbers on the temp gauge rather than H-C.

Edit: Did some research on oldGMCtrucks.com. 1951 was the transition year. Early '51 and older had cream colored gauges. Later '51s had the Chevy colored ones.
